J-Pop’s #1 idol and Hello! Project singing sensation Erina Mano will be attending and performing at the world premiere screening (and secondary screening) of her break-out feature film role in KAI-KI: TALES OF TERROR FROM TOKYO (?????-??) on July 1, 2010 (World Premiere at noon and 2nd screening at 3:00 pm) at the world famous venue, Club Nokia, in Los Angeles, California. Advance tickets for both events are now available at club2themax.com. KAI-KI: TALES OF TERROR FROM TOKYO is based on the hit Japanese TV franchise TALES OF TERROR FROM TOKYO AND ALL OVER JAPAN (?????*, Shin Mimi-Bukuro). The TALES OF TERROR FROM TOKYO television show is comprised of short minisodes adapting actual Japanese urban legends, collected from across the country by writer Kihara Hirokatsu. The series has featured works done by a number of notable J-Horror directors, including Ryuta Miyake (JU-ON: BLACK GHOST), Takashi Shimizu (JU-ON, THE GRUDGE), and Tsuruta Norio (RING 0: BIRTHDAY). KAI-KI is the third of three TALES OF TERROR FROM TOKYO movies that have been released theatrically in Japan; the first two having been released in 2004 and 2006, respectively. It is comprised of two separate short stories: TSUKIMONO: THE POSSESSED and NOZOMI, both starring Erina Mano. The film was written by Ryuta Miyake and directed by Makoto Shinozaki (TOKYO ISLAND), and features the song "Returning Home" performed by Ms. Mano.

In addition to the screening, the KAI-KI World Premiere event will include a Q&A, fan meet & greet, autograph session, and a live mini-concert with star Erina Mano. Photo courtesy of Japan Film Society. © 2010 BS-i, King Records

Erina Mano will be in attendance at both screenings and will also partake in a Q&A session with audience members and perform a mini-live concert at the event as well, “I have heard that Japanese horror films are much enjoyed outside of Japan, so I was glad to be chosen as an actress for this movie, and excited to get to know fans in the United States”, exclaimed Ms. Mano. In addition, Erina Mano will also be take part in a fan meet & greet and a mini-autograph session for a limited time at the event. “I am so excited to meet my U.S. fans,” she states, “I hope you all can come out and join me!” Also in attendance will be legendary J-Idol producer Andrew Tamon Niwa (the man behind Pocky 4 Sisters, Tokyo Shojo, and Miyazaki Aoi; in addition to Miss Mano) and the acclaimed horror/ghost-folktale aficionado and Tales of Terror author Hirokatsu Kihara, whose work inspired the hit Japanese TV series and now the highly anticipated theatrical release starring Erina Mano. Fans are encouraged to dress up or cosplay as their favorite ghost characters at the event and experience two suspenseful and bone-chilling movies. Event organizers guarantee you will never go to sleep with the lights off again! Additional support for this event provided by United Television Broadcasting Systems, Shinca Entertainment, BS-TBS (Japan), Goggle, Inc.; JP-Room, King Records and the Japan Film Society.

    * We`re taking a risk here, as it is considered extremely taboo and unlucky to write out the full name of the TV show. There is an urban legend surrounding the series that due to them "bringing to life" so many spirits from around Japan, the show itself is cursed!

    About us

Welcome to SciFi Japan, your source for news and information on science fiction, horror, fantasy and action movies, TV shows and videos.. from classics and old favorites, to upcoming productions and home video releases, to the odd and obscure titles you may never have heard of!

The mainstream press has largely ignored Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) films, and when the genre has been covered by American news outlets and television the results were often inaccurate and condescending. On the other hand, there have been some excellent fan publications and websites devoted to these films, but Japanese studios have been extremely reluctant to deal with fan groups due to concerns over copyright infringement issues (some fans advocate and promote activities such as video bootlegging and unlicensed downloading). With no direct access to studio news and photos, fan reporting has often been forced to rely on secondhand info and rumors.

What was missing was a professionally run English news outlet working directly with Japanese studios and filmmakers. So, in 2006, we brought together a talented group of published authors and reporters, film historians, reviewers, festival organizers, and movie makers with ties to the Japanese film industry to launch SciFi Japan (More information on our key contributors can be found here). The only English language news site press registered with all of the major Japanese studios and production companies, SciFi Japan is able to consistently bring accurate and exclusive information on Japanese films and shows to English speaking/reading fans worldwide.

This site also receives updates from licensees and distributors of Japanese movies in North America, the UK and Australia, and we’re press registered with the major American studios as well. So, while our primary focus remains Japanese llive action and anime news we will rinclude international productions in our "International SciFii" and. "Asian Cinema" sections.

And in 2012, we launched SciFi JAPAN TV, a web series featuring coverage of tokusatsu events and interviews with Japanese filmmakers. Each episode was shot on location in Japan exclusively for SciFi Japan by the Gaijin Channel production team.

SciFi Japan has grown by leaps and bounds over these past few years, and the site will continue to improve. So please bookmark SFJ and check back with us frequently… we’ll do our best to make it worth the effort!
