GOODBYE MY CAR is directed by Hayato Kawai the maker of such hits as MY LOVE STORY!! (俺物語!!, Ore Monogatari!!, 2015) and KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR (かぐや様は告らせたい〜天才たちの恋愛頭脳戦〜, Kaguya-sama wa Kokuraseta 〜 Tensaitachi no Renai Zunōsen 〜, 2019), and written by Tamio Hayashi, screenwriter of THE ETERNAL ZERO (永遠の0、Eien no 0, 2013), FRAGMENTS OF THE LAST WILL (ラーゲリより愛を込めて, Rāgeri Yori Ai wo Komete Lageri yori Ai o Komete, 2022) and DEAR FAMILY (ディア・ファミリー, Dia Famirī, 2024).
STORY
Hiroshi Tachi stars as the "weakest protagonist ever" in the ultimate "non-stop driving comedy" of his career!
Hiroshi Nanjo is a 70-year-old actor. Having happily celebrated his 70th birthday, he suddenly finds himself facing the greatest crisis of his life. It all starts with a casual comment he makes regarding a motorcycle accident caused by a fellow actor—an old acquaintance with whom he shares a long, complicated history. The public hails him as a true star—"That's Hiroshi Nanjo for you!" and "Nanjo is the best!"—but the ensuing media frenzy spirals out of control, dragging in his manager and family while twisting his words into something far removed from his original intent. "So, Mr. Nanjo, when exactly are you going to 'hand in your driver's license'?" Hiroshi Nanjo is a movie star who still wants to perform action scenes. How will he navigate this monumental crisis?
