Babes, Bikinis, Blades, Guns and Zombies on Region 2 PAL Disc Source: The Associates press release Official Movie Site: Onechanbara: The Movie (Japan) Special Thanks to Farhana Shaikh

The 2008 Japanese "babes vs zombies" flick CHANBARA BEAUTY (Onechanbara: The Movie) goes on sale today in the UK from Manga Entertainment. The British publicity firm The Associates has provided a press release, DVD cover art, stills, and video clips from the film. Please note: the video clips do include violence and some brief nudity. From the press release... A bikini clad babe in a cowboy hat, armed with a samurai sword slashing her way through hordes of zombies as she seeks revenge on her patricidal kid sister who`s now playing sidekick to an evil scientist… What`s not to like? Based on the hit Japanese video game series THE ONECHANBARA, the directorial debut feature from cinematographer Yohei Fukuda (GROTESQUE), CHANBARA BEAUTY stars Eri Otoguro (VAMPIRE GIRL VS. FRANKENSTEIN GIRL; SHUTTER), Tomohiro Waki (INITIAL D – DRIFT RACER) and Taro Suwa (UZUMAKI; END CALL; THE MACHINE GIRL) in a pulse pounding action-horror extravaganza that entertainingly delivers the goods from the get-go. It`s the near future and the majority of the world`s population has been transformed into flesh-eating zombies by a virus created by mad scientist, Dr. Sugita (Taro Suwa). Attempting the level the score of humans vs. zombies is Aya (Eri Otoguru), a beautiful samurai assassin with a minimalist dress code and a fondness for very sharp blades who is searching for her younger sister, Saki (Chise Nakamura), missing since she murdered her and Aya`s father. Accompanying Aya is Katsuji (Tomohiro Waki), a well-meaning but somewhat bumbling and cowardly guy whose own sister has been kidnapped by Sugita. During the search for their respective siblings, they are joined by a gun-wielding, leather clad biker girl named Reiko (Manami Hashimoto), who has lost her young daughter to the zombie plague and is now seeking her own revenge on the one responsible, namely Sugita.

Slashing and blasting their way across the country through a mire of zombie gore as they progress ever close to their goal, the trio are seemingly unstoppable in their quest. That is until they meet Aya`s equal and now arch-nemesis, Saki, who is now in the evil employ of the psychotic scientist with plans on taking over the world by means of a zombie army. Pure, unadulterated zombie slaying fun from start to finish, CHANBARA BEAUTY races from one action set-piece to the next, barely pausing for breath, as two of the hottest looking avengers ever to grace the screen take on the undead in an orgy of blood, blades and bullets. CHANBARA BEAUTY (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£17.99) by Manga Entertainment on 7th September 2009. Special Features include: "Making of" featurette; Japanese 2.0 and 5.1 audio options; optional English subtitles; trailer; scene selection.

    About us

Welcome to SciFi Japan, your source for news and information on science fiction, horror, fantasy and action movies, TV shows and videos.. from classics and old favorites, to upcoming productions and home video releases, to the odd and obscure titles you may never have heard of!

The mainstream press has largely ignored Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) films, and when the genre has been covered by American news outlets and television the results were often inaccurate and condescending. On the other hand, there have been some excellent fan publications and websites devoted to these films, but Japanese studios have been extremely reluctant to deal with fan groups due to concerns over copyright infringement issues (some fans advocate and promote activities such as video bootlegging and unlicensed downloading). With no direct access to studio news and photos, fan reporting has often been forced to rely on secondhand info and rumors.

What was missing was a professionally run English news outlet working directly with Japanese studios and filmmakers. So, in 2006, we brought together a talented group of published authors and reporters, film historians, reviewers, festival organizers, and movie makers with ties to the Japanese film industry to launch SciFi Japan (More information on our key contributors can be found here). The only English language news site press registered with all of the major Japanese studios and production companies, SciFi Japan is able to consistently bring accurate and exclusive information on Japanese films and shows to English speaking/reading fans worldwide.

This site also receives updates from licensees and distributors of Japanese movies in North America, the UK and Australia, and we’re press registered with the major American studios as well. So, while our primary focus remains Japanese llive action and anime news we will rinclude international productions in our "International SciFii" and. "Asian Cinema" sections.

And in 2012, we launched SciFi JAPAN TV, a web series featuring coverage of tokusatsu events and interviews with Japanese filmmakers. Each episode was shot on location in Japan exclusively for SciFi Japan by the Gaijin Channel production team.

SciFi Japan has grown by leaps and bounds over these past few years, and the site will continue to improve. So please bookmark SFJ and check back with us frequently… we’ll do our best to make it worth the effort!
