^Even the Hunnam haters liked him in Lost City of Z.

(I'm not a Hunnam hater, though. I like him! He was the damsel in distress in Crimson Peak)

^It was a gothic romance, like Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre... with horror elements and a few bits of extreme gore sprinkled throughout.

GDT spent a lot of time hemming and hawing right before the movie came out that the ads for the film were entirely misleading and that it wasn't a horror film at all. I think it would have been better had it been sold as a dark, myserteous romance with some thriller elements and then when people watch and see the ghosts for the first time they'd be surprised.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - this movie does what so few have been able to do in the history of sequels. It elevates the original material and takes it in new, compelling directions that gives us a story even better than the (spectacular) original, with wonderful character development and very real emotional impact. This is the Empire Strikes Back of comic book movies.

Nope, The Winter Soldier is The Empire Strikes Back of comic movies.

Personally, I thought Guardians 2 was subpar. It felt like the character regressed from where they were at the end of the first movie and Drax was utterly obnoxious. Not to mention they dragged the jokes out for too long as if there was supposed to be a laugh track following them.

Winter soldier is really good too, I actually need to watch it again. But GotG2 is flipping fantastic. I love everything about it and I found the humor to be on point.

GotG 2 was my favorite Marvel movie since Winter Soldier, and I don't think it's even close. I'd rank everything between those two movies at like a 3, maybe 3.5, except Ultron, which I'd give a big fat honking 1.5, but Winter Soldier is like maybe a 5, and GotG 2 is a 4.5.

I really don't get the hate for AoU. Sure, it didn't live up to the first movie, but people demonize it as if it was the worst movie they had ever seen. They did the same thing with Iron Man 2. Thor 2 is the only MCU movie that is truly bad, but even that is redeemed by Loki.

I find AoU clunky in its construction, but I'm generally into the individual pieces that make it up. The whole is just kinda less than the sum of its parts.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Logan Lucky - Damn, just when I thought the summer movie buzz was done, this thing comes out. Not only does this film blend in a perfect balance of drama and comedy, but every actor in it gives it their all, even Channing Tatum. Regardless, the star of the show is hands down Daniel Craig, who turns in an incredible performance and I haven't seen him appear to be enjoying himself this much in years. The first half is a little slow, but the execution and payoff are well worth it, as are the nice twists and turns you do not see coming. Most importantly, there is a lot of genuine tension that occurs throughout the actual heist. Not only is this a movie that makes a wonderful send off to what has turned out to be a terrific summer season of movies, but it is hands down one of the best movies of the year. This goes right up there with Get Out, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Spider-Man Homecoming. I give it a 10/10.

F8 of the Furious - I'm pretty sure Universal found a rejected GI Joe movie script and used it for this movie as this felt exactly that, like a GI Joe movie. Hell, you would take the last 40 minutes of the movie and call it Mad Max on Ice. I know this franchise has left the realm of believability a few movies ago, but at least it was still about cars. This thing is nothing more than just another below average explosion porn action movie. The plot, or lack of, makes absolutely no sense. None of the characters seem to be in character anymore, and the comedy is so forced. Not to mention I feel like the people who edited this movie felt the audience was dumb because there was a character at the beginning of the movie who shows up later on and they gave you a flashback scene to tell you who that character was in case you missed the first 20 minutes of the movie. That is just down right insulting and is talking down on their audience. Add on top that all of the main characters put in the god mode cheat because they will go through explosions, jump out of cars, and be shot at without a scratch on their body. This movie was so awful even The Rock was pretty much like, "**** it, I'm going to act over the top." The most shocking aspect of this insult was the lack of any mid/post credit scene to sequel bait despite you knowing there is going to be one. Everything about this movie felt hamfisted and it goes to show that some franchises just need to know when it is time to stop. It isn't anywhere near the worst movie of the year, but it is a pretty generic, uninspiring borefest that may cure a lot of insomnia. Good luck if you watch this. 6/10.

American "Death Note": I liked this more than the Kaneko films. The characters of Mia and Light are much improved imho, and while L seems to jump to conclusions, he comes across as a bit damaged which adds a nice dimension. Wingard doesn't pull any punches on the violence, and the ending is a nice twist. Overall this may be my favorite Americanized take on a manga

The Lost City of Z - I believe the Z stands for the sound of sleep because this movie was down right BORING! Whoever put this on their top 10 horror movies of 2017 was a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" twat! This is not even close to being a horror movie. It's a docudrama type film about an explorer whose life never had a god damned conclusion, so the movie has no actual conclusion either. Now that is not to say it was an awful movie, because it was well made, but the pacing was so awful that some parts felt completely unecessary and pointless. Then there were other parts that didn't make any sense. There is one character in the film whose entire role could have been axed as he brought nothing to the overall narrative as all he did was drag the movie out. The actors did do a great job with the roles they were given however. It's no where near the worst movie to come out this year, but the box lied when it said it was one of the best movies of the year. As it stands, I give it a 6/10.

^.... no one ever said it was horror. It's a historical film, based on a true story. Who said it was horror?

Nocturnal Animals - The trailer lead me to believe this was a different movie than what it was. It was a very well acted drama featuring a story within the story (plus flashbacks for another level on that) - I will say that the entire length of the opening credits are fully nude obese people dancing in slow motion, which went on much longer than i was comfortable with. There is a also a subplot involving rape, which always sours a movie for me. It's a movie i can appreciate, but never want to see again.

^ that's just it, i wouldn't classify it as such, despite how the trailer plays out. if you asked me to put it in a genre of some sort i'd say "Post-Romanticism" or just "Drama" - The story within the story is a crime thriller, the wrapping story is a drama.. both use mostly the same actors, which is why the trailer is very misleading. Great acting though.
