If that's when they're trying I kind of dread seeing what they do when they're just phoning it in.

The Fearless Vampire Killers

There's a lot to recommend about this film: beautiful visuals, haunting choral score, and Ferdy Mayne is great as the Count Dracula type, but this film doesn't really come together in my opinion because this is supposed to be a comedy and I don't think it's very funny. I also think Roman Polanski made a mistake in casting himself as the lead, who, along with his bumbling Van Helsing-like mentor, do pratfalls in the vampire's castle for most of the film. With apologies to Polanski's auteur cred: Abbott and Costello did it better.

Piranaha (78)- Probably my favorite Jaws ripoff. It's actually a solid movie.

Cabin in the Woods- I hadn't watched this since it came out on BD. Movie is really good and I'm surprised we still haven't gotten a sequel/reboot

Goosebumps The Werewolf of Fever Swamp- Not tecnically a movie but rather an extended TV episode of the show. I really like this one it's a fairly decent werewolf flick aimed at kids.

Frankenstein versus The Wolfman- A poorly animated CGI short film from 2008 but still someone enjoyable.

Toho's Dracula Movies - They're ok. The first one doesn't have a uh, "vampire"' really, but it wasn't bad. Jelli's earlier assessment that they're Toho Hammer films is basically accurate. I liked them ok, but they aren't overwhelmingly special.

Gunhed - This was my first time watching this. It's horrible. Aside from some interesting effects, it's a terrible, terrible film.

Kamen Rider Zo - This was awesome. Watch it.

Mechanical Violator Hakaider - Meh.

Shin Crapzilla - The name speaks for itself.

Submersion of Japan - Great film with wonderful characters...and holy crap that Tokyo destruction sequence!

Sinking of Japan (2006) - Higuchi's inferior remake of Submersion changes too much and misses the point of the original. It also lacks the performances of the Prime Minister. It's not ALL bad, but I found it very meh overall.

The World Sinks Except Japan - Eh, as a parody film, I did laugh a few times, but it's too long and doesn't accomplish enough for the run time.

Attack on Titan 2 - I don't remember if I talked about this one earlier or not, but wow, this film is a garbage fire of crap.
It should have never been made. The first one was at least ok, but the second ruins anything the first had going for it.

Lorelei - So far, Higuchi's best Directed film and one I really enjoyed despite some lame duck CG work.

Atragon - Awesome movie.

The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror.

I watch it every year but I honestly can't remember the last time my overall impression of the special as a whole was positive and I feel like the last individual segment that really even sang was The Grand Pumpkin, which was over five years ago. At this point, watching this episode is my yearly reminder to keep ignoring the show I used to love so much. It might have been the worst one ever this season, with parodies of Hunger Games/Maze Runner/Mad Max/Interstellar and Kingsman/Bond, I was left wondering why the hell this was a HALLOWEEN episode and not just some random segment episode akin to Simpsons Tall Tales or Trilogy of Error or something.

Extremely disappointing, even with my expectations set about as low as possible.

Yeah, outside of the opening segment, this Halloween special sucked. In fact, the last great Halloween episode in the last 10 years wasn't even a Treehouse of Horror one, but an actual episode that took place during Halloween, which aired last year. The worst thing was these stories could have aired at any given time because there was nothing Halloween related at all. It's like these specials are now being made to parody whatever the big thing in pop culture is at the time instead of parodying horror stories. Why not do a parody of It Follows, The Babadook, and The Conjuring?

What's worse is this season has been pretty enjoyable until this episode.

I remember when I was really young I was scared of Simpsons' Halloween specials. I was so averse to anything horror and I recall them really going for it.

Horror Express

When you take a Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing period picture on a train, add reanimated prehistoric monster picture, add alien bodysnatcher picture, add a dash of zombie picture, and get Telly Savalas to come in a few days for an extended cameo? Obviously you've got all the ingredients for perfect Halloween viewing. It's exactly the kind of movie you'd think it was from the description on the back of the VHS box. And there's a Rasputin-esque monk!

^ That's pretty much where I am. I've been with The Simpsons since the beginning, so I'd like to see its end (most likely *hopefully* season 30 will be the end). It's odd because I think when I first got married I missed a few episodes on Sunday evenings between 2002-2004,seasons 13-15- because I was still Programming my VCR (remember that?), and sometimes I just didn't want to bother, so I caught them in re-runs. Pretty sure I've seen all 600, but cant remember them all. I have the DVD's (Seasons 1-12 ,20 and The Movie) BRD (13-17)...so the fact that they stopped producing them irks me a little. Also "Simpsons World" is a joke. I pay for Internet only, but have no cable or satellite service, so they wont let me on. I'm hoping someone else picks up the ball and decides to distribute The Simpsons on Blu-Ray. I don't even care about the extras anymore. I do love the commentaries, but at this point, I just want to get the rest of the episodes in some physical format.

I was playing with some numbers a while back...I was kind of *hoping*, even if they did a few clip shows, that somehow The Simpsons producers would pull of some mega-effort to make the last episode of Season 27 their 600th....But if that were the case, and seasons 28-30 would have had their recent normal of 22, then season 30 would end with 666 episodes! ...Not that I'm superstitious or anything, but at least now, if they stick with their normal 22, Season 30 would end with 662

I'm more upset that we will never get BD releases of the first 9 seasons. Some of my DVDs are starting to show their age.

And yea, the Simpsons World thing is a joke. I'd rather download an episode I want to watch than deal with that thing. Also, it is for the US and Canada only, so if you are in Europe, you are screwed if you want to watch a post S17 episode.

From my understanding, Fox does not like to play ball with Shout! Factory.

Anyway,

Christine - I'm not sure what it was between seeing it last year on the big screen and watching it on BD this time, but I really enjoyed it a lot this time around. It's interesting to see how this movie spends so much time developing the characters before really getting into the horror. The effects are is down right phenomenal, especially when Christine is on fire chasing the one "Too old to be in high school" bully. Not to mention it features Carpenter's excellent musical work. I think this might have just bumped up from my tenth favorite Carpenter film to maybe 8th place. I'm going to give this an 8/10.

The Fly (1958)- I really enjoy this one. It had really good special effects for its time.

Little Dead Rotting Hood- A werewolf flick from The Asylum, it was okay considering who made it. It does have a predictable twist though.

Waxwork- I just got the BD in on Tuesday so I watched that. I've always enjoyed this flick from the 80s and the BD looks great for an obscure movie plus it's got nice special features.

Waxwork II: Lost in Time- Again I enjoy it and the BD looks great. Not as many special features as the first film but still good

From Season 11, I can't stand the Tomacco episode and the one with the horse racing. Those two are terrible episodes.

Rocky Horror Picture Show remake - Another garbage remake that misses the point of the original.

Let's start with the good.

1. If you never saw the original or did not care for how dated it could be, this movie is excellent!
2. Tim Curry, bless his soul, tried his hardest with ailing health to be what the Criminologist in the original film was.
3. Laverne Cox was a fantastic Frank N. Furter. My god, she had the energy, passion, and love for what she was doing. Very similar to Tim Curry, which you could see she respected.
4. Riff Raff's actor, who I do not know much about was very much like Richard O'Brien. Unlike Laverne, he tried to emulate O'Brien more so than taking is how spin at the character. If he is a new actor and early in his career, this is a good thing. If he is not, then that could be a problem. This is the same with Brad's character. He also took me back to Barry Bostwick and acted like a complete dork.
5. Each musical number was more engaging, compared to the original film, which was more like the play. The background characters were more active and showed personality. This is one thing that I do appreciate here.
6. Rocky was just like the original film. Cannot complain there!
7. The costuming was very current to this eras style, compared to the 70's for the original film.

Here is the bad!

1. Janet, Magenta, and Columbia's actress were complete "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". Not that they could not sing, which they did great there, but their ability to act was non existent. They all appeared to be trying to hard compared to the other actors.
2. Eddie and Dr Scott also were very terrible. Not sure how they are even related in this film either...
3. Eddie's death scene was neutered. While one could argue this is due to being on television, the original was not really violent. However, it held an impact that this movie did not give.
4. They did not even actually do the ****ing time warp. The song was there, but the choreography was for something else entirely.
5. The sound was not mixed properly. Dialog sounded great, but the songs sounded like they were prerecorded.
6. The costuming was modern, yes, but it was also too obnoxious at some points. For example it made me wonder if some of the makeup artists had ADD when putting things together.
7. 95% of the dialog was the same to the movie and stage play, however some it was changed to fit modern audiences. Not much, but what was changed did not fit the flow of the older dialog all the time. (This is excluding where they change he to she when referencing Frankie. That makes sense.)
8. The dinner scene did not hold any energy either. They sat at one long table next to each rather than like a normal dinner table.

While I know that these negatives could be nitpicks, but I disagree. If you say that you are going to honor the original, it is important to cast, write, and encourage your actors to do a great job. For some this worked, while others (including my favorites), this was not there.

I would give this movie an 6/10 for a great effort.

Watched "Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe" on Netflix. The first third is a wonderful adventure film with plenty of monsters and excitement. The last act goes in a direction that is a bit more generic. Would love for it to have maintained the first act throughout. Still worth a watch, also interesting to see what appears to be propaganda worked in throughout the film.

Hush - kept hearing good things about this home invasion horror flick. figured i would put it on because i had some busy work and thought subtitles would be distracting. I didn't realize that the main character was a deaf mute and her sign language would be subtitled (oops). Anyway, the main character was interesting and engaging, which elevated the movie above similar flicks. The deafness played a very interesting role in the film as well. Often in a horror film you see things that the protagonist doesn't see because of the camera angle, here you could also hear things that the protagonist couldn't hear, which effectively increased the tension.

X-Men days of Future Past - I do enjoy this film, and have owned it for a while...still continuity problems bother me, also its in anticipation of my inevitable viewing of Apocalypse, which will be soon I imagine. Admittedly I have never seen the "Rogue Cut" so I don't know if it makes more sense or not. Sure I appreciate that all the things that X-Men The Last Stand messed up were "fixed" in this film but still...At the end of X3, we have a depowered Magneto, with a possible "tease" that he might get his powers back...but nothing definite, and a sign that Xavier *might* live via a new host body...but none of that explains their 'appearance as normal' in the post-credits scene of The Wolverine...It feels like something huge is missing. Also since the teaser for Logan just dropped...I guess all these battles have been pointless if the future has gone to crap anyway...kind of depressing. I always find it makes me feel better to go back and watch the corresponding episodes of the 90's X-Men animated series after watching some of these films.

Honestly, there's nothing different in the Rogue cut. The only thing it really adds is a cool scene with Magneto that goes hand in hand with the scene when he grabs his helmet in the past.
