This is all looking better every day!
I was no fan of the design early on, but the more I see, the more I like. Picking up the first of the Bandai Shin-G vinyls also helped me warm up to the design...a nicely detailed figure. I knew there were whale bones or something wrapped around the end of the tail, but I did not realize it had such a well-defined head, face, and mouth. It'd be hilarious if that mouth fired a beam as well! Really looking forward to seeing what role that plays in the movie...if any. It'd be even more hilarious if it was never utilized or even mentioned AT ALL. I find that hard to believe, though, as much as they've been pushing it in our faces.
As for the stiffness and lack of movement, YES, THANK YOU, TOHO! I think that's PERFECT for Godzilla. As I wrote back in April:
"I like his stiffness, the slow movement, the feeling of immense weight and power. I don't like quick-moving "kibbles & bits" Godzillas, like GINO or Final Wars. Godzilla should NEVER run, EVER. Godzilla is HUGE, and huge things are slow."
I'm not sure what the "slow Godzilla is boring" crowd actually wants...tail-sliding G74? Building-hoppping G98? Soccer-playing G04? For me, the best iterations so far are G54, then G84~G91. From what I've seen of G16 so far, it's EXACTLY what I want, movement-wise. Huge, slow, foreboding, unstoppable. G is taking his time. He's in no hurry to get anywhere. I like his "walk cycle", too. Works for me!
All we need is a good story, and I'll be very happy with this.
