I don't know how I feel about it. I am kind of curious to see what they can do with CGI as well. Yes, we have the Hollywood Godzilla, but that's Hollywood. The recent Ultraman and Gamera trailers were very impressive even though they were CG, they were very much Japanese. I also doubt it'll be 100% CGI. Even if the puppet didn't work, I'm sure there are shots that needs to be done with suit anyway. Maybe they're using CGI for the parts that were supposed to be filmed with the puppet? I mean, unless they really effed up the suits too, they're probably already built and ready to be used for the movie. Would be a waste of money to dump them. Unless they did screw it up big time. I think a smart mixture of miniatures and live action could work better. Only the building the monster will smash is miniature, while the surroundings are real build composited into the shot. I found a lot of the millennium sets way too... set like. It never felt real no matter how detailed they were.
I was hoping techniques besides CGI and suits being explored in this new movie, but we'll see.
