I still find the reasoning lame. But hey it's how you feel and it's not gonna stop me from seeing it.

We have so few details on the film and people are already voicing this or that about it, really amusing.

I'm shocked by the amount of cynicism being thrown at this film despite no one having seen it or even heard of it this time last week.

Whether you liked Cloverfield or not, it has a higher user rating on imdb than Godzilla 14 and on Rotten Tomatoes. The film may not be your cup of tea for reasons, but the film is critically one of the better received entries in the giant monster genre in the past 15 years.

In my mind Cloverfield isn't a monster movie at all, it's a disaster movie. The main focal point is a group of people trying to survive a massive environmental crisis that in this case was a giant monster but could easily have been a volcano (Dante's Peak, Volcano), an asteroid (Armageddon, Deep Impact), an earthquake (San Andreas, Earthquake), and so on. That's why the monster is a relative non-factor in the movie - the disasters themselves, while often carrying the name of the movie, aren't the point. The people are.

Sure, as a kaiju fan I'd have liked to see more stomping action, but I was very satisfied with the dramatic flow of the movie.

After Barton Fink, I find it impossible to trust the intentions of any John Goodman character. Based on the movie's tagline, I can't escape the feeling that there is no apocalyptic event in this movie, and that Goodman is just a crazed survivalist who got sick of waiting for the end of the world, so he kidnapped a couple of people and faked it. If that's what it is, I'd have been more excited by this trailer if it didn't have the baggage of the Cloverfield name. Of course, it could be a double-bluff, and we're just supposed to assume Goodman's character is bonkers early on.

I am not going to be a happy camper if this movie doesn't at least feature some sort of giant monster action. Definitely won't be a premier movie night for me. But unless I'm wrong, IMAX usually doesn't show non-SFX heavy movies. Which would mean this has to have some stuff the trailer isn't even hinting at yet.

...which is why they keep making more albums. There is a proven audience that is ready for the next product on the merits of the previous project(s)

I REALLY disliked Cloverfield. I don't know why but I just couldn't get into it maybe because like many others I can't stand the "found footage" genre of horror films which is odd because I really enjoyed the old Animal Planet show Lost Tapes.

That being said I'm interested in 10 Cloverfield Lane but I'm not going to waste money in the theater to see it. I'll wait for it to hit home video in the summer and rent it.
