Via Steam's holiday sale I picked up Metal Gear Solid V: The Demo.. I mean Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Rising: Revengence.
I honestly don't think I've had a game install and start as smoothly as MGS5:GZ. No extra boxes popped up to ask for permission for this or that, no huge as loading screen and all the corporate logos were on screen for less time than one from booting up Fry Cry 3. The main mission is short, but there are thing in the compound that I'm sure are utilized more in the other missions (like the big cannons or commandeering vehicles). But the cut scenes are astounding! I know there's a live action Metal Gear movie in the works, but I would totally watch a movie made entirely from these quality of cut scenes. The animation is just astounding. And per Kojima the scenes are long, 10+ minutes from hitting start to actually playing and another 10+ after the missions is completed. But they were just.. wow. At one point I was getting a rather visceral reaction to the game, something that even movies rarely do (the scene involves emergency surgery). For being under $20 some might still find it a tad expensive, and I wouldn't argue I'm just an idiot blinded fandom.
If this port is any indication on how Phantom Pain is going to be, it'll be astounding.
MGS: Revengence was just as smooth installing (other than my internet connection crapping out making the download take WAY too long). But for some reason it came up windowed. I didn't mess with it too much but I tried alt-enter and it didn't do anything, so I just started playing. And it's a freaking blast to play! Other than the windowed thing, the only real issues was the camera wanting to look at me rather than the enemies. I'd get tossed into a wall or something and instead of letting me focus on the enemy bearing down on me the camera is just looking at my stupid face right before some cyborg starts wailing on me. I just got into the section in the sewers with the big gorilla things and they are just... ugh.... hate them. HATE them. Boss fights are bug nutz awesome though.
