Just watched the 3d version, and I didn't notice any PQ problems. Although I think I really need to calibrate my tv as the ghosting seemed pretty bad in some spots, particularly in the beginning while they were investigating the old Godzilla remains. However, this isn't the only 3d movie recently where I"ve noticed this on my tv.
But the main reason I'm posting is because of the 5.1 soundtrack. Holy crikey is it good. I always appreciate a film that takes advantage of all channels and tries to immerse you *in* the movie, and this soundtrack does it. From my viewing here this is the biggest positive I took away from it.
This is the second time I've seen the flick since originally seeing it in the theaters, and I liked it a *lot* better this time. I remember saying on this forum in the movie thread which was pretty much the reaction thread at the time that: "I liked it, I wanted to love it, but I only liked it." This time? Quite a different feeling. Really leaning towards loving it now. I remember being bothered by the pacing, characterizations and lack of Godzilla, which now I thought were fine and properly done. In particular, Dr. Serizawa's scenes seemed to now have a weight I didn't appreciate before. I have a feeling this movie will age well for me.
Really like all the extras. Its obvious everyone involved has a love for what they're doing.
Btw, I went LED due to burn-in issues that I had with videogaming on a plasma. Did you know that Panasonic likes to have their "game mode", a button exclusive to the remote, set to 100% contrast? I'm still angry that a company would encourage a default to an obviously damaging setting like that, which I didn't understand fully until after the fact. My mom has that plasma set now, and I still think it had a better picture and particularly better 3d than my new set does. The offset is that I don't worry about videogaming HUDs or lengthy pausing anymore. For most things that's irrelevant, but for a serious session of Gears of War Horde mode, well, I can still see the Cog symbol in the upper left of my now mom's set(thank you, "Game Mode"!). Moral: plasma is better, but videogame responsibly on it.
