After looking at the special features a couple of times, I'm thinking it may be interesting to watch the ones relating to the film's backstory: Monarch: the M.U.T.O. File, Operation: Lucky Dragon and The Godzilla Revelation BEFORE actually watching the film itself. These features provide a timeline (of sorts) as well as the story's history, so to speak. In one of them, Dr. Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) is mentioned by name. She's the person whom, one, as a new member of Monarch, is instructed to report to.

I think these features are well done. They lend that it's-actually-happening feel to the film's narrative.

Does it bother anyone that there's no director's commentary?

Question but how many of you folks here have an LED tv? I still haven't had a chance yet to upgrade from a LCD flat screen to a LED. I think those folks with LCDs like me will definitely see more darkness levels in the PQ when viewing the blu ray. This is true even with our properly calibrated tv that we've been using for the last 5 years.

Just watched the 3d version, and I didn't notice any PQ problems. Although I think I really need to calibrate my tv as the ghosting seemed pretty bad in some spots, particularly in the beginning while they were investigating the old Godzilla remains. However, this isn't the only 3d movie recently where I"ve noticed this on my tv.

But the main reason I'm posting is because of the 5.1 soundtrack. Holy crikey is it good. I always appreciate a film that takes advantage of all channels and tries to immerse you *in* the movie, and this soundtrack does it. From my viewing here this is the biggest positive I took away from it.

This is the second time I've seen the flick since originally seeing it in the theaters, and I liked it a *lot* better this time. I remember saying on this forum in the movie thread which was pretty much the reaction thread at the time that: "I liked it, I wanted to love it, but I only liked it." This time? Quite a different feeling. Really leaning towards loving it now. I remember being bothered by the pacing, characterizations and lack of Godzilla, which now I thought were fine and properly done. In particular, Dr. Serizawa's scenes seemed to now have a weight I didn't appreciate before. I have a feeling this movie will age well for me.

Really like all the extras. Its obvious everyone involved has a love for what they're doing.

Btw, I went LED due to burn-in issues that I had with videogaming on a plasma. Did you know that Panasonic likes to have their "game mode", a button exclusive to the remote, set to 100% contrast? I'm still angry that a company would encourage a default to an obviously damaging setting like that, which I didn't understand fully until after the fact. My mom has that plasma set now, and I still think it had a better picture and particularly better 3d than my new set does. The offset is that I don't worry about videogaming HUDs or lengthy pausing anymore. For most things that's irrelevant, but for a serious session of Gears of War Horde mode, well, I can still see the Cog symbol in the upper left of my now mom's set(thank you, "Game Mode"!). Moral: plasma is better, but videogame responsibly on it.

I'll echo what's already been said, there's nothing wrong with the print. Adjust your settings if you can.

The Blu-Ray appeared a bit too dark so I went in and adjusted my settings and now the night scenes looks as good as they did in supplemental scenes.

I know this isn't THAT much help since all sets are created different and these settings vary depending on the TV you have, but I was asked, so here it is. These are the custom settings I've done myself. I doubt these settings are anywhere near perfect to any videophile or professional looking at them, but its the settings I came up with and have been using for years. They've worked for me ever since, and G'2014 looks fantastic. I'm using a 32-inch Panasonic LCD that's about 8 years old. I didn't lay a finger on these settings, they're exactly the same now as they have been

Mouth I have to agree with you in that your settings won't be beneficial because as you've stated each TV set is manufactured to different standards, plus you have to factor in different lighting for each room. If you want the best settings for your set download the free calibration disc from AVS.

Yup.

Anyway, as far as missing deleted scenes, there is still the Korean release which comes out at the end of the month, which is suppose to have 10 minutes of extra deleted scenes and a 16 minute feature on the editing. If the good stuff (the HALO jump speech, Takarada, more Watanabe and Olsen stuff) is in there, I might double dip, but I'd like to see what is/isn't on there first. I know Chris from Toho Kingdom said he contacted WB and they said that listing for the Korean disc was false. I don't know how valid that is since he's been guilty of giving bad "inside" info before and also because I wouldn't imagine that WB's USA home video department would know what was going on with a release from Korea. And I doubt they'd just troll us all by making up things that aren't on their blu ray.

I've got a question for anyone in the know in terms of calibration:

I definitely need (and want) to do it for my TVs around the house, but does it make much difference what device I use to calibrate? In other words, if I calibrate using my computer connected via HDMI, will it make a big difference if I watch a blu-ray on my blu-ray player? Or a movie on HBO? I'm guessing there will be SOME difference, I'm just wondering if that difference is significant enough to make me bother burning discs for calibration when I can just go to the AVS forum link John Schuermann supplied and connect my laptop.
Gills.

Just got done watching the blu-ray and to me, it looks the same as it did in theater. I think it just boils down to how you have your TVs calibrated.

It really irks me that there's a chance this disc could get re-pressed or future versions will be altered due to complaints. Would anyone be interested in creating an anti-petition to cancel out the first petition?

I think one forum should address the other about unconfirmed information. This is how things like there are two endings to "King Kong vs. Godzilla" got started (among other things).
