They're the reason why people root for Mothra in the first place. Did Mothra cause a lot of destruction in Mothra 61? Yes. But the audience generally didn't see her as the villain, but Nelson because of his treatment of the Shobijin. I think they could work them in easily. Maybe not even tiny fairies, but supernatural gifted twin girls. Polynesian probably.

People say, "We needed more monster action" Fanboys cried "Not enough monster action"

Tull and Edwards said "OK bitches.....how about 4 monsters...all Toho classics"

Fanboys ruin their pants and begin to speculate....for the next 4 years thinking they won't psych themselves out again....only to be foiled....

In the movie, Godzilla is seen now as a sole threat....We see Mothra sent in by not fairies but two fireman from the Vegas scene...yes, twin firefighters.....

Mothra shows up to a Godzilla who now awake full time has chowed down on San Onofre Nuclear powerplant....which was in the process of being decommissioned. She shows up and gets blasted out of the sky, like any bug should...

Meanwhile Rodan is on a distant island guarding an egg...they use the same sound technology to make Godzilla talk in Godzilla VS Gigan and he says....Let's see, Mothra goes out to fight Godzilla....that will go well...and once again I'm here to guard an egg. Well maybe it will be mine this time. At that point, it opens to reveal two Mothra larve at which point Rodan says "F-this, I'm not on Maury and I AM NOT THE FATHER" Rodan flies off to the Ghetto which is where he apparently likes to be in America.

Back in Hollywood, the three Olsen sisters are chatting about a Full House reunion when they are nuked by David Hasslehoff's tanning booth and are merged into a hideous, lightning spewing golden three headed dragon, like the dorats....since the twins did look like dorats when they were young. Ghidorah goes on a rampage and Uncle Jesse is called in to stop them. Unfortunately his hair is not up to the task so he says "These girls were always pain in the A$$ divas.....get Godzilla...let them fight!!!"

Huge battle ensues, mothra larve show up and spin their web to help Godzilla defeat the Olsens and Godzilla heads Skull Island because "They heard that "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" Kong is back"

Rodan shows up after it's all over and says "DAMMIT, I missed it again!!"

The End

End credits scene shows Professor Doc Brown tinkering on something,,,,he drops plutonium into what we now see is a flux capacitor..."There, that should do it....Marty come look at this!!" "This is no time machine Doc....what is it?" "You're right Marty, i've given up on time travel....this is Mechagodzilla!!!" Pan out to see the head of the classic MG......

Ghidorah and Rodan are two kaiju that could really benefit from this new movie. Toho has had a hard time maintaining their former awesomeness. Mothra went through a major improvement in Tokyo SOS but the other two suffered in the last two series.

So yeah, since they seem to have clarified that they didn't mean all three would appear in Godzilla 2 specifically, I'd still kinda like it if they held off on Ghidorah until the third film. Have him by the biggest, most apocalyptic threat Godzilla has ever faced and really built up to his eventually appearance. Mothra and Rodan are big enough heavyweights that they could potentially fill out the roster for a second film by themselves and still leave a major monster like Ghidorah for another sequel. Like Benjamin said, have them all fight each other in G2, then team up to face Ghidorah in G3.

I'm also doubting they'll end up doing much if anything Shobijin-related for their version of Mothra. I'm not sure they could really make that fit, but leaving it potentially ambiguous as to whether or not they have "influence" on certain people or something could work, as people have already suggested. I'd be surprised if it was anything more than a GMK-style nod though and that Mothra was simply a giant butterfly-like insect from the same time as Ghidorah and the MUTOs were said to be from. Or even if they went with something more akin to Marvel's Ultimate line and re-imagined her as actually looking like a monstrous moth, though I imagine there'd be a few fans that might not like that approach.

I definitely hope they keep the space monster origin for Ghidorah though. It wouldn't be that hard to make one of the two main suggestions that have already mentioned here fit, that he either arrives in a meteorite at the start of the film and goes on a rampage, or has been in hibernation on Earth for eons and awakens in the present day, with only references being made to his extraterrestrial origin. I could see that possibly being the more likely way they might go with him if they were afraid that flat-out showing him arriving on Earth might not be considered "grounded" enough for the world they're creating or whatever, but either way I'd certainly prefer something like either of those explanation for where he comes from here.

GMK Ghidorah certainly fits the bill of an undeveloped Orochi type creature. And if you want to say he's useless, he knocks a chunk out of Godzilla's neck which turns the tide of the final battle. That is after absorbing Mothra's energy, but it only supports the notion of the Guardian Monsters uniting to defeat Godzilla.

I forsee some trouble getting modern non-Godzilla nerds (like us) who are just average American film-goers to swallow a classic version of Mothra. Without the twins and the deity connection she loses a lot of her appeal, IMHO. A sticky mess for the writer(s) to sort out, to be sure. I'd much rather that Legendary jettison Mothra in exchange for Angilas. While I was SUPER-ULTRA hyped at the news from the comic-con, seconds later I was depressed when I realized that poor Angilas got snubbed - AGAIN! The balance of ground-based versus air-based monsters will be seriously out of whack, (the larva/caterpillar version of Mothra not withstanding).

Are they actually going with all three monsters in addition to Godzilla??? If that's the case, then my other major head-scratcher is just what in the heck are going to do for Godzilla 3 if they shoot their wad with the second film????

I must confess that I am super stoaked at the prospect of seeing a beatuifully rendered CGI Rodan blasting through the skies, shattering buildings with his supersonic shockwave! (I about jizzed just typing those words!!!! LOL.) Let's hope that they keep the look from the '57 original and don't mess with his face/head, a'la Heisei Rodan. (Ick.) Keep his classic screech, too! No more generic roar! Same goes for King Ghidorah. Speaking of which...

I almost cannot even wrap my head around how awesome KG can look. Thankfully, I am pretty certain that Toho will insist on total creative approval of the designs. I know that all the guys involved are uber kaiju nerd-geeks, so I can only pray they do right by KG's design. YES. Absolutely keep his extraterrestrial origins. He's just too "out there" to be a dinosaur. Some ancient doomsday weapon, either drifting through space that enters Earth's orbit, or is perhaps sent here? Ssomething along those lines. Can only hope they make his entrance as jaw-droppingly spectactular as it was in G:TTHM. Can't post any more now... still too amped...

Sounds cool! I'm not a huge fan of the original film (I don't HATE it though) but this hopefully ends up being a film I can rally behind this time. (Though with the same creative team on board I doubt it).

And color me surprised but the "Let them fight" made me smile.

I have to agree that Mothra will need the most work done. Rodan can still be a pterodactyl with similar origins to Godzilla. Ghidorah can still be an intergalactic space destroyer. Mothra as a semi-deity with a psychic connection to a pair of twins, tiny or otherwise? Not sure how that would work in the Edwards-verse.

The monster announcement bums me out, as I bet they're just going to re-use the GTTHM dynamic for the monsters (i.e. Mothra convinces Godzilla and Rodan to team-up against Ghidorah), and I don't want a remake of that film. I enjoyed the new Godzilla film, but I'm so ambivalent to any further glossy, high-budget installments which just cannibalize past films for their plot-lines (The new Apes film was so boring and predictable because of it).

I sort of clamor for the Millennium period now. Godzilla 2000, Godzilla X Megaguirus, GMK, and GxMG, and GFW for all their faults are fairly different from the films that precede them and they use traditional tokusatsu effects (Which I really miss). Of course, the series also has Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla, which is the most generic, and homogenized of all the Godzilla films.

Honestly, my biggest hope is that Toho gets antsy about the four year wait for the next film (It won't be out until 2018), and they release their own film in the mean-time.
