I forsee some trouble getting modern non-Godzilla nerds (like us) who are just average American film-goers to swallow a classic version of Mothra. Without the twins and the deity connection she loses a lot of her appeal, IMHO. A sticky mess for the writer(s) to sort out, to be sure. I'd much rather that Legendary jettison Mothra in exchange for Angilas. While I was SUPER-ULTRA hyped at the news from the comic-con, seconds later I was depressed when I realized that poor Angilas got snubbed - AGAIN! The balance of ground-based versus air-based monsters will be seriously out of whack, (the larva/caterpillar version of Mothra not withstanding).
Are they actually going with all three monsters in addition to Godzilla??? If that's the case, then my other major head-scratcher is just what in the heck are going to do for Godzilla 3 if they shoot their wad with the second film????
I must confess that I am super stoaked at the prospect of seeing a beatuifully rendered CGI Rodan blasting through the skies, shattering buildings with his supersonic shockwave! (I about jizzed just typing those words!!!! LOL.) Let's hope that they keep the look from the '57 original and don't mess with his face/head, a'la Heisei Rodan. (Ick.) Keep his classic screech, too! No more generic roar! Same goes for King Ghidorah. Speaking of which...
I almost cannot even wrap my head around how awesome KG can look. Thankfully, I am pretty certain that Toho will insist on total creative approval of the designs. I know that all the guys involved are uber kaiju nerd-geeks, so I can only pray they do right by KG's design. YES. Absolutely keep his extraterrestrial origins. He's just too "out there" to be a dinosaur. Some ancient doomsday weapon, either drifting through space that enters Earth's orbit, or is perhaps sent here? Ssomething along those lines. Can only hope they make his entrance as jaw-droppingly spectactular as it was in G:TTHM. Can't post any more now... still too amped...
