I'd be extremely surprised if we get a sequel announcement.

I'd put money on it they show a preview for an extended cut Godzilla for BluRay.

**** and dear god yes I would love for them to announce a new director. thanks edwards for getting it off the ground but I don't want the same formula in the next movie.

(even though that might have more to do with the writing but I'm not sure at this point)

As much as I would want a sequel announcement, I honestly just assumed that they were just teasing on having somthing similar to the Godzilla Encounter at Comic-Con last year.

I just can't imagine if WB/LP wants a Godzilla sequel in a short amount of time, Edwards isn't going to be able to juggle that and Star Wars at the same time. Maybe Edwards produces it. O_o

I just hope they don't announce something stupid like a Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover. Two completely different timelines that have no business being thrown at each other.

*edit* I also noticed I start my sentences with "I just" a lot. yuck

Well there will be a 25 foot tall Godzilla statue outside the convention center....that's something.

As far as removing Edwards from the film, that's just silly. So much goes into the whole thing and what this lacked was solid characters. That's script and actors, not the director. He can only pull out as much as he has to work with and I think he did a fine job.

Slow burn is fine as well, I think had they sprinkled a bit more Godzilla, even an extra 3-5 minutes, it would have made a drastic difference in people's perception of the movie. (BTW I enjoyed it very much but did wish the first fight took place in scene as opposed to the TV.) However that TV spot did show one thing....that the single male MUTO was not ready to face Godzilla alone...he couldn't wait to get away to his mate.

In the next film, I'd really like them to explore the creatures more. Develop a game plan based on their findings while having a whole new set of problems arise (IE new monster) that just messes things up. I mean I always thought that perhaps Godzilla expending energy could weaken him, even if temporarily which was shown but not discussed. I know people do not like this approach because Godzilla is supposed to be unstoppable and that is the point, he still IS unstoppable, however you need to have an ebb and flow and in battle Godzilla has been down and out to many times I've lost count only to rally.

As far as the visuals, I thought they were great, and that goes to Gareth and Seamus McFadden. I'd like to even see some more vintage footage during research, to really uncover the whole history of Godzilla and the other monsters.

Now get me some good character pacing and we will move the franchise to a new level.

Teasing Godzilla at comic con already? Man.. Seems early, unless they are indeed moving quicker with it then first thought. I would be more ok with Edwards producing G2, get a new director with Edwards overseeing it a bit, then Edwards comes back for G3.

I hope to god its not a dvd/blu announcement though... There's no need to hype up the fans like this to not get some kind of G2 info.

The gap between Godzilla '14 and Godzilla 2 will be filled by a series of canon short films produced in Japan with traditional FX techniques!

It will probably be a surprise visit of that solid gold Godzilla (even though they say it will be in display in Japan at the same time as Comic-Con - and any of you more wealthier guys can probably bid for it! :P )

So does anybody know what day Legendary's panel is on?

Edit: Never mind, just figured it out. Looks like Saturday from noon to one. Thank you Google.

Rumor has it they might be showing another concept teaser. I don't remember where I read that but I remember thinking it was a fairly reputable source (who was reporting it as rumor) so who knows what might happen. If that's the case then no way they'd want to wait a whole four years. My guess is a sequel scheduled for sooner rather than later, especially if they promote/announce it at this year's SDCC. Guess we'll see on Saturday.

I agree, if we can get Godzilla 2 sooner with another director I'd be very happy, it's just about finding a good one that'd be willing. For people desperate to have Edwards back, who knows, maybe he could return in time for Godzilla 3?

I will be beyond shocked if we hear anything official about Godzilla 2 from SDCC.

To be honest I'm a bit torn about the whole "should there be a new director" thing. On some level we know Edwards has a love of the monster and knows how to handle monster action and can hopefully improve on his weaknesses for his second outing. But at the same time I want a moving sooner than 2018 and I like the possibility of someone new taking his place. There are just so many available hacks out there that I would hate for Godzilla to get ruined just because some studio execs were inpatient. Thomas Tull seems to genuinely love the franchise, however, so hopefully he won't put the big G in the wrong hands...

This entire reboot we were sold on it being the love child of Tull and Edwards. I just can't see them replacing him.

Holy hell, there are going to be a lot of disappointed Godzilla fans this weekend angrily complaining about how LP/WB misled them when there ends up being nothing in regard to a sequel getting fasttracked with a different director.

Legendary might have a problem replacing Edwards. There's quite a few directors out there that will not touch it. Some feel it''s beyond their means or ability to do Big G justice. Also, there's a realization that creative freedom is somewhat limited when working with an established icon.
