Well there will be a 25 foot tall Godzilla statue outside the convention center....that's something.
As far as removing Edwards from the film, that's just silly. So much goes into the whole thing and what this lacked was solid characters. That's script and actors, not the director. He can only pull out as much as he has to work with and I think he did a fine job.
Slow burn is fine as well, I think had they sprinkled a bit more Godzilla, even an extra 3-5 minutes, it would have made a drastic difference in people's perception of the movie. (BTW I enjoyed it very much but did wish the first fight took place in scene as opposed to the TV.) However that TV spot did show one thing....that the single male MUTO was not ready to face Godzilla alone...he couldn't wait to get away to his mate.
In the next film, I'd really like them to explore the creatures more. Develop a game plan based on their findings while having a whole new set of problems arise (IE new monster) that just messes things up. I mean I always thought that perhaps Godzilla expending energy could weaken him, even if temporarily which was shown but not discussed. I know people do not like this approach because Godzilla is supposed to be unstoppable and that is the point, he still IS unstoppable, however you need to have an ebb and flow and in battle Godzilla has been down and out to many times I've lost count only to rally.
As far as the visuals, I thought they were great, and that goes to Gareth and Seamus McFadden. I'd like to even see some more vintage footage during research, to really uncover the whole history of Godzilla and the other monsters.
Now get me some good character pacing and we will move the franchise to a new level.
You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!
