Mutos need radiation etc... Why didn't the female stay in Nevada by the bunker? Seems like a good place for a nest...

Then again I don't blame them, Nevada is a horrible place to live

I think the next biggest market is actually China...I wonder what the Japanese will think of the new movie.

I can't be the only one here reminded of Gigantis as Serizawa projected a film and explained that Godzilla was from a long extinct race of proto-dinosaurs that fed on radiation. (Not that it's a bad thing, I enjoyed this origin more than a "rational" explanation about the existence of a 400-ft, radioactive monster.)

I loved that the opening montage's heavily used the same military stock footage that was in every '50s B-Movie and was used or inserted into many a kaiju film. Those shots scared the hell out of me as a kid, but as an adult it was like a signal that we were in familiar, comfortable territory. Bit of a 'Welcome Home Guys.'

Does anyone else kinda feel like they started this movie going in one direction and halfway through it they decided to go in another? I mean, remember all the talk about "godzilla is here to punish man for his crimes against nature?" Or "now i am become death, the destroyer of worlds?" What happened with that? If anything, Godzilla ends up saving man from himself, and cleaning up his mess.

Everyone keeps going back to that Oppenheimer quote and teassr and pointing out various ways in which we were "lied to"

More than likely the reason that was never released is how little any of it (monster, tone, "I am become death" quotes) was representative of the film

Finally got to see it in Imax 3D,and oh my gosh... What a ride. There are definitely things wrong with the movie that keeps it from being a new classic or whatever, but gosh for the sheer thrill of seeing Godzilla with modern special effects and a real heart. Man you can't beat that.

Just saw it again today and it was AMAZING. Even caught the Mothra Easter egg. I'm also happy to see it is utterly stomping the box office. Now we just cross our fingers that it can stomp X-Men next weekend, or at least remain in 2nd.

Also, if anybody here went to the Wilkes-barre PA Movie 43 theater today, I loved that UNGCC shirt you wore. I totally want one.

No, no, no no, they got it wrong! For one thing, everyone was speaking English! They should have dubbed this in Japanese so that we could have subtitles! :D

Actually, thumbs way up on this one. It is not perfect, but then again, none of the other Godzilla movies are either (yes including the first one, if I am allowed to sound blasphemous).

When this project first came to fruition, I was fearful that we would get another retread or clichéd “Godzilla is an unstoppable force of nature wrecking havoc on humankind”. I think we’ve had enough of those. Instead, this movie felt like a 1960s Showa feature, where Godzilla is the unintentional good guy.

Others have talked about the characters, and probably better than I could ever do, so I won’t dwell on that aspect. The only disappointing (and curious) thing was having an esteem actress like Juliette Binoche not really much in it, other than a good death scene.

The Muto creatures were great. A fat Godzilla maybe, but he was quite serviceable. Special effects were top-notch!

As for comparing it with others, I still think it is actually quite silly doing that since this is a whole different universe we are talking about. I did not much care for Richard Pusateri’s review because in his head, he was already comparing it to the first movie, and I’m assuming that is probably his favorite or what he thought was the best made of Toho’s output. Essentially, that is already putting one strike against this film. We all have our list of favorite G-films and psychologically, it is pretty much set in stone. Sure there is always some fluctuation, but usually not on a massive scale. “Destroy All Monsters” AIP version is and will always be my all time favorite G-film. And because this was not like DAM, I am not (and should not) going to hold that against it. The Toho Godzilla films are their own entity. The better comparison is pitting this with the other American Godzilla picture. And definitely, this movie was everything GINO was not and what GINO wanted to be – a well executed monster film.

Saw it a second time last night. While I have a couple of problems with the film, several of which have already been articulated, some of them dissipated with the second viewing.
I think this was great, probably in my top 10, if not top 5. The film works both as the beginning of a new era of Godzilla films and as an anniversary film by combining like...4 or 5 types of Godzilla films. The acting is tonally in keeping with the 1954 film, the story itself is 50s/early 60s Toho scifi, Godzilla is a hero ala the 70s films and even has Godzilla's ability to sneak up on things as demonstrated in Terror of MechaGodzilla. I liked the movie, flawed or not, I liked it.

The 7 p.m. screening was mostly quiet, although I heard a "Oh damn." when Femuto was killed.
The 6:45 screening on Friday had tons of applause and reactions, and at the end people clapped. I live in an area in which this is pretty rare, so it was kind of interesting.

I love the Mutos. They are my favorite couple.
