Not sure why so many seem to be concerned about seeing the film at a "real" IMAX, as "real IMAX" screens have a 1.43:1 aspect ratio and GODZILLA is shot in 2.40:1. Godzilla will be letterboxed in "real" IMAX theaters, since none of the film was shot 1.43:1. It would look much the way letterboxed 2.40:1 films used to look on old 4:3 television sets.
Many digital theaters have switched over the 4K digital projectors anyway, which actually outperform even 70mm 15 perf IMAX. Personally, I would check which local theater has 4K projectors and then choose the auditorium that has the largest 2.40:1 screen (some theaters mask down to 2.40:1 from 1.85:1 - bad - while others open up to 2.40:1 - good). The other thing to look for is Dolby Atmos sound, as the film is being mixed for Atmos and that is a rather dramatic improvement over standard 5.1 or 7.1 surround.
My personal preference would be to see the film in 2D at a Dolby Atmos theater with the largest 2.40:1 screen possible. Fortunately there are a couple up in Denver. I do think I will be stuck with 3D, though.
