I'm sorry but dismissively telling people to buy Toho's blu-rays is crap because:
1.) They don't feature subtitles, so when it comes to actually watching THE MOVIE, you have to what, switch discs? Come on.
2.) Holy expensive.
3.) There have actually been posts on these boards telling people specifically how to maximize the viewing experience for those Toho masters, and since most TVs these days allow for saving one or two custom viewing modes, the complaint about them looking washed out may not be 100% valid anymore (I've yet to do so for my version of Biollante)
I'm all for these releases, I think it's great considering a lot of the old ones are OOP and difficult to find, such that any fan who's wanted to buy them over the past few years has had to stick it, or buy a used DVD for $80, but it's not like the discs are above reproach.
It stinks that we won't be getting the original credits, it stinks that we won't be getting AIP dubs, it stinks that fans of Hedorah may never get to hear the translated version of "Save the Earth" again, it stinks that fans of Gigan may never get to see the speech bubbles and it stinks that there are limited extras. It doesn't mean I'm gonna boycott the discs or anything silly like that, but I'm gonna call a spade a spade.
You know you can like something AND have complaints with it, right?
