I think it's safe to say that a LOT of designs over the years may look spiffy in stills but in motion not so much ...and vice versa. Even then the look can change within the film (or even within a scene!) and still pics sometimes only look cool from certain angles, etc. With the older series not being able to replicate a suit's look for miniature versions for long distant shots or the puppet heads used in close-ups it makes it even more of a toss up. It still does this (to a lesser degree, but still... ) in the Heisei & Millenium films, to an extent.
What it all boils down to is that the proof will be in the pudding ...in 51 days. I'll give the LP creative team a LOT of leeway if their re-design (which isn't my "dream" version, not even close) does all the great things that I want and acts the way I hope to see in the movie, versus a design that I love to death but doesn't do anything cool or have any Godzilla-esque traits or personality. My favs and hates have shifted and changed over the years, I would put this new LegendGoji up in the top 10 based on looks alone, but even that's tough to sign off on since almost all of the unobscurred visuals we've seen are kids' toys or utterly craptastic photoshop hackjob artwork. The one shot that endeared me the most on this re-design- of all things - was the 3/4 side upper body view on those party napkins.
