The Expendables - I'm blown away by how bad this is. And BORING. Holy crap.

And Godfather III is every bit as bad as people say

The Birds - I went in knowing a little bit of what happens in the movie since it was parodied in "High Anxiety," and was also worried because I read there was absolutely no music in it at all. Well I come out with being highly impressed with the movie nonetheless. The lack of music had no effect on the movie whatsoever, which was an amazing feat in itself (as I tend to have a hard time getting into a movie without a score), but man, this movie was well done. Like the others I have watched, the movie is chock full of suspense, dread, has some great conversations about what is going on (such as the scene at the diner), and the characters are great. I kind of wished I had saved this one for a while longer as I still have 9 more movies on the set and I'm not sure if any of them are going to top the ones I have already watched, especially this one. The movie does a great job in both the effects to display the birds attacking and the sense of "what the hell is going on with these things?" throughout the entire thing. I definitely give this movie a 9/10.

I don't think I have ever finished Godfather 3... I remember thinking that Sofie Coppola's acting was really rough.

OMG, I agree with Jelly on another movie.

I did not care for The Expendables either. I though the second one was vastly superior, but only because of two moments in the movie.

Watched quite a few movies with a bit of a marathon Friday and Sunday night:
The Help - First time I'd seen this. It was fine. It's really good, just not my type of movie, honestly. Not something I can see myself revisiting, but it WAS good.

The Slammin' Salmon - Call me stupid but I find it funny. It's not up there with Super Troopers or Beerfest, but it's just a notch below (Michael Clarke Duncan is actually very funny).

The Kids are All Right - It needed to be a little funnier. It aims for Little Miss Sunshine or 50/50, but winds up more Sunshine Cleaning. Not that Sunshine Cleaning is BAD, it just didn't strike a chord and neither did this.

Burn After Reading - Funny. I really like this movie.

Snatch - Another long-time favorite.

Horrible Bosses - Eh. It has a few funny moments from Charlie Day and a couple decent lines here and there. I've seen worse, especially from Bateman and Sudekis.

H.P. Lovecraft's Cool Air (2006) - ZERO budget, but there are things it does remarkably well given that it otherwise seems wholly amateurish. Only recommended to Lovecraft superfans AND those who can handle watching stuff with absolutely ZERO budget, but I honestly found it slightly less offputting than The Expendables.

Wrong - I can't even begin to describe this movie...Everything in this movie either makes an insane amount of sense that I as yet am unable to grasp or none whatsoever and the whole thing is pointless. There's either an immense brilliance on display or absurdity for the sake of absurdity. It's from the director of Rubber, so I suppose if you like that particular film, then you'll be all set here (not sure, never seen Rubber), but if you can't get on board with bizarre absurdism that probably doesn't even attempt to make sense, you won't like this.

A guy loses his dog, then tries to find the dog, but along the way calls a pizza place to inquire about their logo wherein he talks to a woman who is so intrigued and inspired by his line of questioning that she sends him a free pizza with a note inside to come see her and set something up so they can have sex but the note is intercepted by the man's gardener who calls up the woman who doesn't recognize the voice is different so meets up with the gardener and sleeps with him then leaves her husband to be with him but shows up at the original man's house wherein she meets the original man but just floats along with thinking he can change his appearance whenever he pleases so she is head over heels in love with him but he's distracted by his search for his dog which leads him to encounter William Fichtner who's a caucasian playing a character called Master Chang who happens to kidnap people's pets in order to later reunite them and see how much more these people appreciate their pets, but there was a problem with the kidnapping of this particular dog whose name I think was Paul, in that the van which kidnapped Paul burst into flames so now the man thinks his dog is dead but wait there were no dog bones in the van so now the man tries to use Master Chang's techniques to communicate with his dog telepathically but there's also a private investigator search for the dog who uses some of the dog's feces from the backyard to try to pinpoint the dog's last memories because poop now has memories of its own from the inside of the dog's colon.

Oh also, the man goes to work every day despite having been fired 3 months ago...and in his office, it's always raining. So that's that movie...

Saw American Hustle recently with my parents, at a theater frequented by "old" people.
While the movie was great & both Christian Bale & Amy Adams were amazing, there was an issue with some younger people sitting nearby.
They were messing on their phones & even smoking an e-cigarette.
Not really that distracting, but seriously people if you pay to see a movie, and get bored just leave!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) - really liked this, nothing amazing, but a really solid set of performances.

I personally hate smoking, but I really don't see how the vapor in those e cigarettes is any worse than the fog machines used at Halloween time.

Expendables 2 is SO MUCH BETTER than the first one. It's actually the kind of movie you were hoping for the first time around. It's still got some problems, some that are easy enough to overlook because it's not supposed to be a "good" movie, some that I find GRATING. The dialogue is one of those things that irritates the crap out of me. It's at least better than it was in the first film, but there are still so many missed opportunities for good lines. At least we finally got SOME puns and quips and cheesy 80s dialogue (and JCVD is awesome as the villain), but there are still far too many times where there's a setup for a pun or a quip, and then the person who responds just basically repeats the previously spoken dialogue...

"This is bad."
"This IS bad."

"Nice touch"
"It is a nice touch"

"You must want to hurt me"
"I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm gonna take your life" (can't just say "kill you"???)

Barney Ross: I got an idea. And your ego, I think you're gonna love it.
Lee Christmas: My ego?
Barney Ross: Your ego.
Lee Christmas: What do you mean, my ego?
Barney Ross: You've got a big ego.
Lee Christmas: Well, check your ego out.
Barney Ross: Oh, please. Your ego is like the size of a dinosaur. Huge.

Ugh.

Then there's the part where Bruce Willis first talks to Stallone. Hes like, "I'm gonna send this girl with you." and Stallone says, "A girl?!?! But woman are in all ways inferior to men and incapable of assisting in any way, shape or form." Then Bruce says, "Don't worry, she's tough, she can fight, she can take care of herself. She'll help you. Trust me" and Stallone's like "Ok" then Bruce says, "Now, if she has even one small bruise, I'll kill ya."
Why send her along, if she's tough and can take of herself but then say she's not to be harmed at all? And also, it's not like the bit about her not coming to any harm comes back at any point, why is that even in there? Bruce Willis's character in these movies is SUCH a douche. He's not a hardass, he's like a borderline villain. He constantly threatens to kill people...

Oh and then there's also the part where JCVD has them all disarmed, and can just kill them, and doesn't because it's convenient to the plot.

So, OBVIOUS stuff like that sticks in my craw, but at least this one actually feels like a pretty fun action flick at times.

Marnie - This was a strange little movie from Hitchcock. I liked it but thought it dragged on a bit. Sean Connery was fantastic in it and I love the little arguments he would have with Marnie. I'd say this is probably the weakest of the Hitchcock movies I have seen thus far, but it was still pretty good. Overall, I give it a 7/10.

BTW, I started to watch the documentary on the movie and turned it off about 10 minutes in because all it was was people complaining about the movie.

Batman: The Movie (1966)

Jazzed about the news of the series' release I had to pop in this Blu-Ray.

This is a tremendously fun movie, even if it's inherently compromised: the best episodes, crazy as they were, had a focus or theme that made them stronger. This film is a more slap-dash story simply meant to accommodate as much of the stuff people liked about the series (as many villains, certain types of scenes, ect.) into as coherent as possible a series of vignettes. It's a testament to just how great the cast and crew were that they pulled it off and made such an enjoyable movie.

Adam West is Batman as far as I'm concerned. He just crushes it, a perfect comic performance. The way he knows what lines to overplay, underplay, when to bring in just enough of a hint of seriousness or pathos to keep things under control... it's amazing.

I finally saw the 2011 Conan film. It's okay...it's too long by about 15-20 minutes though and considering how many POINTLESS action scenes are in it, that run time could have been WAY cut down. Also, Rose McGowan with no eyebrows and weird hair was really off-putting to me. I'd probably give it a 2.5/5. I'm certainly not furious that I paid a dollar for it.

The Godfather II - Okay, so I'm seriously unsure what I want to say about this movie right now. I just watched it, but I really have conflicted feelings on it as it was very good, better than the first, but at the same time, I felt just a slight tad disappointed from it. I loved the story bits with Vito, but I felt there was something missing from them to seal his side together while Michael's story was well done, but again, something just seemed to be missing in the end as I just sat there thinking, "That's it?" Maybe I'm just not getting something in the first viewing, but I feel like there was no climax to it or something. Nevertheless, I give it a 9/10, but I feel like something is missing for me.
