I'll agree with you that the original Terminator is more of a scifi horror which is what the series should be!. I mean its a nearly invulnerable robot coming to kill you! Its far more plausible as a slasher villain than other 80s slasher movies. I mean I still love T2. I just don't think its as good as when I saw it as a child and hadn't become jaded by spfx. T3 however is a terrible movie that almost lampoons T1 and T2. I have yet to see Terminator Salvation which I might rent to finish my Terminator marathon.

So I saw "Charade" finally and it is such a great movie! I haven't digged deep into Audrey Hephburn's films, but everyone I've seen thus far she is such a charm. The dialogue in this film is done extremely well. I love the wit and charm of both Audrey and Cary, they indeed made this movie come alive! The plot twists and comedy certainly does bring about the film in an extremely light manner. Recommended. :)

To be honest, I'm not that big of a Terminator fan. I saw the first two for the first time on BD and thought they were good, but no the most amazing thing ever like some people made it out to be. T3 was not a horrible movie (its biggest issues are that it is unnecessary and Arnold sucks in it), but Salvation is just pure and utter ****. However, I haven't watched the movies in several years, and with the newly remastered version of the original out on BD, I should pick it up and have a T1/T2 day.

So I am sitting here watching Terminator Salvation. I am about halfway through and I can't help but wonder how people in a dystopian future have such pearly white teeth.

McG wanted to cram as many references to the old films as possible in, so we'll call that a tribute..

Cloverfield- 7/10

On a second watch, not as shaky as I remember. I don't really care for the characters, but with what monster scenes it does have, they mostly deliver. Also, the parasites are awesome.

Zatoichi and the Doomed Man

While serving a few days in a prison Ichi listens to the pleas of a condemned man claiming to be wrongly accused. The 'doomed man' of the title requests that Ichi go to his hometown and contact two associates who'll be able to vouch for him. At first Ichi thinks maybe he should just forget about this request, probably because he's seen a few of his own movies and knows it can only lead to trouble1 Ichi ends up going anyway, and it does lead to trouble (and sword-fighting).

After several more simplistic (but awesome) good vs. evil type installments this is kind of a return to the earlier mode, with Ichi just kinda wading into a sea of corruption with only a few okay-ish people sprinkled in, maybe it's for this reason Ichi gets a kind of comedic sidekick for most of this film. Kinda useless, because this guy's not very funny, while Ichi himself is frequently hilarious. This film is kinda on the weaker side, comparatively, but isn't necessarily bad - the quality maintained in this series is pretty phenomenal, after all.

I get the sense that once Zatoichi became super famous doing a crap imitation of Ichi's mannerisms was pretty widespread among Japanese folks, so much so that people doing crap impressions of Ichi starts happening in the films! This isn't the first movie it's happened in, but it has the most extended example.

Piranha 3DD (well, I guess just DD since I don't do the 3 part...or something) - I really didn't like the way it was filmed, but I got a lot of cheap laughs like when David Koechner gets decapitated by the ribbon, or The Hoff and basically every scene with him, or Ving Rhames and especially his line about buying the shotgun leg with all the money he saved on socks.

If not for the cinematography, I think I'd have enjoyed it more.

Winnie the Pooh (2011) - it's odd that it's so SHORT, when there is at least one deleted scene that would fit in perfectly fine, but there are definitely some VERY funny moments, the film never really lags due to its short length, and best of all, the animation is BEAUTIFUL. It almost brings a tear to one's eye to see it.

Carrie - This pretty much sucks.

For starters, the ONLY reason to do a Carrie remake is to make a more faithful adaptation of the book, but for some reason the ONLY thing people seem to remember/think of when they think about the biggest differences between De Palma's film and the book is the ending.
IMHO, if you're going to make an entire film for five minutes of differences, AND NOT EVEN GET THAT RIGHT, then why remake the movie at all?
This movie brings SO LITTLE new to the table, it's really disappointing. I mean, yeah, it amps up the insanity of the end, but other than that and making the Billy character more evil, more free-willed, and less of a goofball, the movie plays out so stunningly the same, it really honestly feels like one of the very most pointless remakes I've ever seen.

Oh and Chloe Grace Moretz is WOEFULLY miscast as Carrie. Wow. She plays the part of a hapless, hopeless, helpless victim about as well as Tom Cruise could play the part of Andre the Giant.

Stephen King gets around the biggest problem of the narrative of Carrie by popping in flashbacks, court testimonials, newspaper articles, etc from the days, weeks, months, etc after the prom that don't explicitly state what happened, but that tell us something BAD (and significant in scale) will happen before all is said and done.
De Palma not only went with the straightforward, chronological approach, he also dropped everything with Carrie learning to use her powers through the course of the story and we wound up with a film that seemed to be going nowhere until the very end.
The remake doesn't fare much better there. Sure, we get Carrie learning to use her powers, but unless you already know the Carrie story (and the movie BANKS on that), then it's still just as bland and plodding as the original until Chris and Billy get the pig blood.

Pointless in the extreme, boring, and aside from two characters (Margaret and Billy) rather miscast, this one is a DUD.

I refuse to watch Carrie since I knew absolutely nothing about the story until the movie trailer, which then told me the entire movie.

Raiders of the Lost Ark as an Alamo Drafthouse Action Pack Quote-Along. This was my first time to a quote along at the Alamo. It's where they subtitle fan favorite lines so everyone in the audience can quote them in sync with the movie. They also throw in other gimmicks to create an interactive party atmosphere. Everyone in the audience got cheap little plastic party hat fedoras to wear, cap guns to shoot when people were shooting, Chinese yo-yos as a placeholder for the whip, and plastic snakes to wave around when there were snakes. They had little animated icons pop up in the corner of the screen with a countdown to cue you in on when to shoot the cap gun or "whip" the yo-yo. They also threw a GIANT beach ball "boulder" into the audience during the opening scene. Overall it was a lot of fun. Shooting the cap gun was definitely the crowd favorite! Oh, they also had a preshow game for two random audience members that involved racing through an Indiana Jones style obstacle course and drinking shots and a pint at various checkpoints. The winner got a whip (one of the cheapie souvenir ones like you see at carnivals or circuses), but they both got free drinks... :D

I'll certainly be looking at going to more quote-alongs in the future. I also want to go to one of the Action Pack action movies where they do live pyrotechnics in the theater!

The original's not that great either...it sort of just treads water and spins its wheels going nowhere for a good while until towards the end.

Watched the rest of the Original Trek Crew movies. And one thing I got to say is that the Enterprise is only fully up to snuff in one film, The Undiscovered Country. TMP Enterprise was new and the crew was still figuring out the kinks, like using photon torpedoes against the meteor in that distortion they hit. Or even when they try beaming up two people but fail and kill them. Wrath of Khan was a crew of trainees. 3 was still damaged and jerry-rigged to be flow by a few people and then blown up. The used the Bird of Prey in 4. Five was another refit that had issues, doors not opening properly and such. Six was the only time the Enterprise and its crew were fully staffed and in working order, they were finishing up research on gaseous anomalies.

Also saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 - Not as good as the first but not horrible. Gave me some good chuckles. glad I only paid four bucks to see it.

So seeing as I probably have seen most of what is out now, decided to give Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks" a go. It's the tale of Mary Poppins and how the movie came to be: basically a biography of the author. Overall, I loved this film. The acting was marvelous and so was the story. Indeed so much is here that I think made a lot of sense and if anything I definitely recommend it!

Yesterday I watched Hitchcock's I Confess. I've got it about 7 years ago, as part of a boxed set, but this is the first time I ever bothered to pop it in. Definitely not one of his top-tier works, it drags in the middle, and the last ten minutes feel forced to make everything tie up neatly (when, really, it would have been more interesting to leave things a little uglier), but overall it was entertaining.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

The Godfather - After years of seeing all of the parodies, homages, copy cats, I finally see where it all began and to be quite honest, I'm not sure what to think. The movie itself was extremely well done. I loved the characters, the story, the cinematography, and the acting. My favorite scene is by far the baptism execution scene. However, as much as I enjoyed it, I'm not sure I would consider it to be one of the greatest movies ever made. It is close, but just not there. That does not mean it was bad, but I was not blown away as the movie seems to have done to others. Nevertheless, Al Pacino was down right awesome in this movie (although, I did not even recognize him at first) and I give the movie a great 9/10.
