I've always felt if the American version had been made with some of the same sensibilities as the Spanish version, but the better cast (especially for Drac and Van Helsing), we'd have a Dracula film that I really love

Dark Shadows (2012)
As a fan of the original series, I've dreaded watching this film for over a year now. My curiosity eventually got the better of me. Its not as bad as I was expecting but I would still say this is a bad film. This film tries to pay homage to the original series by shoehorning in most of the major plot points but I feel like too much was still changed. Willie Loomis is now a Collins? Wtf? This film also suffers from not knowing what it wants to be. Is it a comedy, horror or a drama? It leap frogs too much to be coherent. Speaking of coherency, there are too many damned subplots going on. Also why was Alice Cooper in this? Carolyn Collins is now a werewolf?

New Tale of Zatoichi
Quality film. Its Zatoichi so its good.

Horror Express
This is a guilty pleasure of mine. I watch it at least 1-2 times a year. It has Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee together again, but its not a Hammer film. Its cheesy. It has a catchy main theme. The plot is ludicrous but I still love it.

Well let's see..

AMC has been showing a bunch of horror flicks, so I've managed to watch most of Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th: A New Beginning over the past few days.

So, Cube Zero answers all of the questions you didn't want answers to and still leaves the two biggest (and really only one of which I feel like I really want answered), namely: What is the whole point of the cubes? and What do those who escape get? I mean, if (as implied in Cube Zero) the cubes are a way of sentencing people to death for knowing too much about the weapons-manufacturing company (people who wouldn't know too much of anything if not for their involvement with the cube projects, so it's a stupid, cyclical problem), then why is there an exit?
If there's an exit, and the cubes are in fact under some entity's control, then there must be some sort of purpose, but if there's not a true purpose (which is possible) there must be some sort of reward. You don't put a rat in a maze if there's not a piece of cheese somewhere.

Overall, it's probably better than Hypercube, but more in its execution than its concept. I like the idea of Hypercube, of taking the cube concept somewhere new instead of just re-hashing the first cube...but Hypercube plays out like a rehash of Cube, while Cube Zero has some new concepts, but kinda the same old cube...

Dark Star - We finally watched this tonight and while it wasn't great, it was entertaining. The last 15 minutes of the movie were great, as was the scene in the elevator shaft. Although, for a while I wanted to call the movie Attack of the Killer Beach Ball. It isn't a movie I will probably ever go out of my way to watch it, but it is one I am glad to have seen. I give it a 6/10.

The Mummy - There has never been a mummy character as incredible as Boris Karloff. As much as I loved Arnold Vosloo in the 1999 remake, and as cool as Karis was in the sequels, no one has been able to top Karloff's performance. His Imohtep just oozes with awesomely terrifying whether it be his towering movements or his ghostly glares. I absolutely love this movie. It does suffer from some odd editing such as scenes jumping as if a frame is missing and I feel the transition towards the end from when Helen is suddenly dressed in Egyptian garments just comes off as awkward, but that does not take away from the over all enjoyment of the movie. Also, I do not know why, but for some reason I never realized the movie jumps 10 years after the first ten minutes of the movie and I have watched this movie many times. Overall, I give it an 8/10 stars.

Oh, and I made this for fun:

^The Ardath Bay makeup is so awesome!

Pacific Rim

I haven't been able to stop laughing at the moment when Otachi unfurls her wings. I've seen this movie five times and have laughed each time. Not a laugh at something comedic, but a laugh of pure joy like a kid finding exactly what he wanted under a Christmas tree.

Rear Window

I'm ashamed to admit I have never watched this film in it's entirely. It's fantastic. Some older films... they're in a style that's foreign to modern audiences. I can understand a new viewer maybe not getting it. They're uninitiated.

This isn't a movie like that. If you show it to somebody and they don't like it then they just have no taste.
