[quote="MIKE FLEMING JR"]Summer 2013 has many budget busting blockbusters. But also problems that have plagued some during pre-production, filming, and post-production. Not since John Carter and Battleship has a big-budget movie received more advance negative press for its production woes than World War Z, the Marc Forster-directed adaptation of the Max Brooks zombie-apocalypse novel that stars and is produced by Brad Pitt. I was shown the movie, but not in its 3D format, weeks before its June 21 release. And each time the response from industry insiders was a version of, “Well, just how bad is it?â€

Yeah, this movie truly does look bad.

It sucks that the zombie subgenre finally took off big enough to where Hollywood has had the means and the reasons to make a HUGE world wide scaled zombie flick and we get this bullsh*t. PG-13 crap that had such a muddled production that they had to hurriedly rewrite and re-film the entire second half. I remember when I was growing up, non-Romero zombie movies were so hard to come by that you had to DIG to find them in video stores. There was the Romero films, the Return of the Living Dead films, Re-Animator, Dead Alive, and a few others... everything else was super obscure and hard to find without going to bootlegs or specialty video dealers. The idea that zombies would take off like this is insane and the potential of a global zombie blockbuster like World War Z is immeasurable. But instead it looks generic, hackneyed, and just downright bad.

I really have no faith that this will be good... I'd like it to be, but I'm really doubting it.

And yeah, the marketing is horrible. One of my friends actually thought it was about aliens and was disappointed when I told him it was zombies.

My friend that I do my podcast with is a HUGE zombie fan and he knows kaiju is my thing and he was like "How come you get Pacific Rim this summer and I get f*cking World War Z. That's just not far!"

I honestly can in no way picture this movie being effectively scary, based on the trailers I've seen thus far. Who knows? I could be way wrong, but the comparisons to Independence Day and general action blockbusters seem more apt to me.

I don't care to see LoTR armies of zombies. Superman, Pacific Rim, Elysium = all I need to see this summer.
