Yeah, this movie truly does look bad.
It sucks that the zombie subgenre finally took off big enough to where Hollywood has had the means and the reasons to make a HUGE world wide scaled zombie flick and we get
this bullsh*t. PG-13 crap that had such a muddled production that they had to hurriedly rewrite and re-film the entire second half. I remember when I was growing up, non-Romero zombie movies were so hard to come by that you had to DIG to find them in video stores. There was the Romero films, the Return of the Living Dead films, Re-Animator, Dead Alive, and a few others... everything else was super obscure and hard to find without going to bootlegs or specialty video dealers. The idea that zombies would take off like this is insane and the potential of a global zombie blockbuster like World War Z is immeasurable. But instead it looks generic, hackneyed, and just downright bad.
I really have no faith that this will be good... I'd like it to be, but I'm really doubting it.
And yeah, the marketing is horrible. One of my friends actually thought it was about aliens and was disappointed when I told him it was zombies.
My friend that I do my podcast with is a HUGE zombie fan and he knows kaiju is my thing and he was like "How come you get Pacific Rim this summer and I get f*cking World War Z. That's just not far!"
