So turns out the previous reports (what massacred my last post??) that the edits were pretty minor aren't the case. Sounds like about 20 minutes of the movie has been cut and the director is not as Ok with it as previously mentioned.. boo.

How long is the movie in its original cut? Is it something that can have 20 minutes cut out and still retain most of its best parts (any Peter Jackson movie of the past 10 years), or is it 2-ish hours long, where cutting 20 minutes will rob us of all the good character stuff and just leave us with 100 minutes of a train speeding through no-man's land?

More drama.. now apparently the Weinsteins want to bring in someone for explanatory voice over narration to bookend the film... (rumor is they wanted Neil Gaiman to do it).. also the film has basically stopped being shown on the festival circuit in any cut since the Weinsteins bought the rights. what a mess

Good News / Bad News

Good News: Snowpiercer is getting the original uncut (director's vision) release in the US

Bad News: They dropped it from a wide release, to a platform release (art house)

Fingers crossed on my end. Plenty of non-conglomerate theaters around the area...

As long as I can watch the director's cut and not some crappy reversion I'm happy.

http://www.slashfilm.com/snowpiercer-us ... mmer-2014/ Looks like a late June release (with VOD for those that don't mind dropping a bit more money to watch at home)

On a side note, I read the first volume of the US released Snowpiercer graphic novel... it was very... French... There were a lot of big ideas (both philosophically and science fictiony) but there was a (je ne sais quoi) nihilistic sense to the pacing.. its hard to picture it as a film although I guess I could picture it as a Wong Kar Wai film... so either the second volume will bring a better picture (volume 1 had a definite beginning and end, so i would guess that the characters in volume 2 are unrelated.. but it could be the same ones and it occur in parallel, or before, or even after).. I would imagine that the film takes a lot of the big ideas or referenced events and fleshes them out a lot more rather than focusing on the story presented in volume 1... Anyway, most of my excitement for the film stems from the director, so i'm hopeful still that it will be an incredible film.
