Honestly, I'm more than happy to see something as relatively standard as this translated to live action this way. Maybe they can shake things up in a sequel but starting out making a really solid formula picture is nothing to be ashamed of in my view. That is, after all, pretty much what Kaneko did with his Gamera trilogy. Guardian of the Universe is nothing really revolutionary in terms of plot, it's just a collection of entertaining elements from lots of previous kaiju films thrown into a blender and then executed really well, with a few little tweaks here and there. It wasn't until Legion and Iris that they really started focusing on innovation.

Yeah, but Gamera: Guardian of the Universe stood out because of its quality. At least, it did for me. It was miles ahead of the previous Gamera films and put the Godzilla films of the 90s to shame. The only thing that as revolutionary is that leap in quality. I just feel like Pacific Rim isn't even going to offer that for me.

As I said, I don't expect REVOLUTIONARY, but I expect something new, or at least like Gamera: GOTU, a combination of interesting yet classic aspects of its genre. The thing is I watch things like Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon and more. Those series (fewer of those being Gundam series) are pretty great and spectacular to watch. The problem I'm having, personally, is that nothing I can see from this production is offering anything really unique. I'm sure I'll like the film well enough, but...if I compare what I'm seeing when I watch the Pacific Rim trailer to what I'm seeing in a Rebuild of Evangelion trailer..there's no contest. Evangelion, as just one example, is spectacular to watch.

So I'm not saying it needs to revolutionary, but FOR ME (and I realize this is confusing since so many people on the internet assume that their opinions are law for everyone) I can't get all that excited for the film.

Not really a new picture:

but it's on Pac Rim's facebook page, along with the tagline: Mankind's last hope is its once fallen hero.

So, confirmation that Gipsy Danger is the legendary jaeger?
