Yeah, but Gamera: Guardian of the Universe stood out because of its quality. At least, it did for me. It was miles ahead of the previous Gamera films and put the Godzilla films of the 90s to shame. The only thing that as revolutionary is that leap in quality. I just feel like Pacific Rim isn't even going to offer that for me.
As I said, I don't expect REVOLUTIONARY, but I expect something new, or at least like Gamera: GOTU, a combination of interesting yet classic aspects of its genre. The thing is I watch things like Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon and more. Those series (fewer of those being Gundam series) are pretty great and spectacular to watch. The problem I'm having, personally, is that nothing I can see from this production is offering anything really unique. I'm sure I'll like the film well enough, but...if I compare what I'm seeing when I watch the Pacific Rim trailer to what I'm seeing in a Rebuild of Evangelion trailer..there's no contest. Evangelion, as just one example, is spectacular to watch.
So I'm not saying it needs to revolutionary, but FOR ME (and I realize this is confusing since so many people on the internet assume that their opinions are law for everyone) I can't get all that excited for the film.
