This may be borderline NSFW but
http://thehawkeyeinitiative.com/

Its a website that brings light to the representation of women in comic books by having Hawkeye in the same sexy/contortionistic poses... and sometimes even the modifying his outfits so its the same

Does anybody ever just want to toss out their Godzilla/kaiju stuff and leave the fandom sometimes? Because I've been getting that feeling more and more recently.

^Nope - but I'm not intense about it. I've loved Godzilla movies since I was a kid, but I have lots of things I like now and I'll often go several months without watching a kaiju film (then I may get a hankerin' and watch a bunch).

I purposely avoid getting burned out on stuff.

By the end of 2004, the year of Godzilla's 50th, G-TOUR, Godzillafest, and the GFW premiere in Hollywood, I was jokingly saying, "I'm sick of Godzilla!" Taking a break from the things you love to recharge your batteries is not a bad thing.

Last time I left the fandom for a bit was around 06 or 07 after leaving Japan. Got back the states and really went through a modern-American horror phase. Been steady since 09 though.

Being a part of fandom is a lot like marriage. Good years and bad years.

Now, everytime I start getting burnt out (which really hasn't happened in a while, once I started liking Ultraman and hero-toku...there's just so much of that stuff that you could bounce around it forever without getting bored) I just switch to American 1950s Sci Fi for a month or two and then I'm recharged.

If you're thinking about leaving the fandom because of the fans, I can assure you that whatever BS you get here, is nothing compared to what you'll get in most other fandoms or most other boards.

I think being a fan, and being part of a fandom are different things, honestly. I think being part of a fandom is actively participating in discussion on the internet, going to cons, and the like. I don't really liken my reaction to burn out, it's mostly just that things in the fandom don't seem nearly as positive or fun as they used to.

Well, that coupled with the fact that last night was just one of those kinds of nights for me.

Ah, I can't really relate to that. I find being part of the fandom to be overwhelmingly positive. I mean, sure there's time I feel pissed, or that "Why doesn't everyone else just get what I'm saying??" but for the most part, it's a fun time will cool people.

That being said, if you have stuff going on in your personal life, sometimes any conflict that happens on-line seems to be 20 times worse.

We all have days where we wanna say screw this place. But if it's a feeling that's persitent, I'd say look at the other areas in your life, or maybe just accept that this isn't a place you wanna waste time at anymore. If this place, or the fandom, is legit bringing you down, and it has nothing to do with anything else then let it go. You can still enjoy Godzilla on your own.

Either way man, most of us will respect your decision. It's important to just have fun and enjoy life :D
