From Collider:

HEAT VISION EXCLUSIVE:
[quote]Carl Rinsch is no longer attached to direct Logan’s Run.

The Warner Bros. sci-fi project, a fresh adaptation of the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan that was made into a 1976 feature, had Rinsch on board to direct but the commercial director has left the project to devote his energies on Universal’s 47 Ronin.

Both projects were vying to be the feature debut for the director, a hot commercial helmer who only became more in-demand after directing sci-fi short The Gift.

But Ronin pulled ahead in recent weeks when Universal, slotting in a November 21, 2012 release date, became a go picture. Ronin also has concept art drawn up and has begun scouting.

(Ronin, with Keanu Reeves attached to star, is based on the true story of 47 Ronin, samurai swordsmen who avenged the death of their master in 18th century Japan.)

Run has always attracted high-profile filmmakers and visionaries, who have been magnetized by the hook of a future society where people are executed upon reaching a certain age and those that seek to avoid their fate are deemed “runners.â€

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe MGM's 1939 adaptation of The Wizard of OZ had some big re-writes. So, "original script" could mean an earlier script, possibly more inline with the book.

Hahaha, yeah it's bound to be just as easy to start fresh with a new adaptation. There's probably going to be some adjustments to the script before filming anyways, I don't think any script went to filming without some tweaking.

The only apparent big benefit WB gains is that they can pitch their OZ movie's connection to the 1939 film, probably also making a point that it is a version that "might have been".

[quote="Josh Rottenberg"]Well, everyone can calm down. While a source at the studio confirms to EW that Zemeckis did indeed take a meeting to bat around the idea of an Oz remake, Zemeckis’ rep tells EW that the filmmaker is definitely not going to pursue the project, saying, “The reports that Robert Zemeckis is doing The Wizard of Oz are absolutely false.â€

Dearest Monster Zero users,

In the middle of the night, I woke up and came up with a brilliant artistic vision. Lets take a fun, goofy Michael J. Fox vehicle from the 80s and make it into a serious Twilight style teen drama. Instead of just calling it something else, we'll use a recognizable name because otherwise nobody will pay attention to us.

If this teaser doesn't sell you on our brilliant Teen Wolf remake, you clearly aren't interested in advancing the art of film.

Your friend and the root of so many of societies problems,
MTV.
