Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps- What the hell did I just watch? The dialogue in this movie is RIDICULOUS. I gotta stop going to these Oliver Stone movies. His last decent movie was Natural Born Killers and ever since then he feels like he HAS to do crazy things just for the sake of it. The "visual flourishes" here are so unneeded, over the top and distracting that it becomes hilarious, almost self-parody. There's a scene where Shia Labeouf is driving with his wife and his secretary calls... and a bubble pops up with the secretary in it and floats over his wife (GET IT ITS LIKE HE'S MARRIED TO HIS JOB)... This movie has cutaway CGI diagrams of fusion technology when characters explain it... speaking of which, the whole movie is like an ad for natural energy. A horrible sequel to a classic film. Michael Douglas is the only saving grace here and Oliver Stone's insanity makes for a LOT of unintentional hilarity. Anyway, here's some
Gymkata- Martial arts movie about a gymnist from the director of Enter the Dragon. One of the most nonsensical, unintentionally funny movies I've seen in a while. Seriously, what the hell?
Sharktopus- Really fun b-movie, probably the most entertaining SyFy movie. I wanna hang out with Roger Corman.
-A Bucket Of Blood- Speaking of Corman, this is one of his best films, IMO. A hilarious satire/mockery of beatnik culture that could easily be applied to the hipsters of today. Dick Miller's best performance as well. A much more brilliant movie than its probably given credit for.
Special- An interesting take on the "what if a guy in the real world tried to become a superhero" genre that's risen as of late. A comic book dork (played by Michael Rappaport) starts experimental medication that makes him think he's got super powes. Its a pitch black comedy and really depressing. And unlike Kick Ass, Defendor, Blankman, and other films of this type, it actually shows what WOULD happen to someone like this... he alienates everyone around him, gets chased by "suits", gets his ass kicked, doesn't become the "hero" and its all firmly planted in reality. HIGHLY recommended.
