The Town- Whoever thought we'd see that awful actor from Armageddon blossom into a fantastic director? He even does a good (VERY good in fact) job in front of the camera here. I wasn't in love with this film, but I really liked it... its a little too "Heat-lite" and its not as good as Gone Baby Gone but still a REALLY solid crime movie. The acting is fantastic all around, the dialogue is great, and the action scenes are well played and full of tension. I could def. see this being nominated for a lot of Oscars. Ben Affleck is certainly a director to watch... wow, talk about words I never thought I'd ever say!
The Sentinel (1977)- Where has THIS movie been all my life? This is exactly the kind of 70s studio horror film I love (and miss dearly)... back then studios made CRAZY stuff like this and didn't care what anybody thought. Basically this girl moves into an apartment that is housing the gateway to hell protected by the church. Carpenter took some of this for Prince of Darkness, so if you like that film, check this one out. Also, if you're a fan of early Polanski like the Tennant and Rosemary's Baby, this is a surreal treat. AND LOOK AT THIS CAST: Christina Raines, Chris Sarandon, Burgess Merideth, Ava Gardner, Beverly D'Angelo, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Beringer, Eli Wallach, John Carradine, and a (literally) blink and you'll miss it cameo by Richard Dreyfuss... did I mention it also has an army of freaks in it (played by real deformed people)?
