Finished Strength to Love, and it was absolutely wonderful. I'm now about halfway through Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha.

I finished Siddhartha last night. A very interesting read, and full of wisdom, though some of it was a little too "abstract" for my taste; though admittedly the philosophy being expressed is, by its very nature, impossible to articulate in any definite way. Definitely worth a look.

I'll be starting on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy tonight, which promises to be quite a heavy read.

The Lost Symbol

I've never read Dan Brown's books before nor seen the film versions, but a coworker suggested it and let me borrow her copy. I was hooked after about 30 pages.

Owls Hoot in the Daytime and Other Omens by Manly Wade Wellman.

The complete collection of the short stories of John the Balladeer: a wandering folk singer in the backwoods of North Carolina who also happens to be one of the best guys to have on your side against supernatural threats since Van Helsing.

I sought this out because Mike Mignola cites John as an influence on Hellboy and the HB story "The Crooked Man" is a direct homage to John. Considering that that was perhaps the best Hellboy story ever done I knew I had to read Wellman!

Sgt. Piggy's Lonely Hearts Club Comic by Stephen Pastis

"Pearls Before Swine" is my favorite comic right now, but that's slim pickings nowadays.

I decided against The Divine Comedy, as a couple of pages in I was made painfully aware that my grasp of poetry of seriously lacking.

However, I did get a few interesting books for Christmas, including Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, which I've already finished. I'm not an athletic sort, and I generally don't take any interest in the subject, but I saw the author discussing it on the Daily Show and my interest was piqued. There's something fascinating about a hidden tribe of nonviolent superathletes that have been around since the time of the Mayans. I definitely recommend checking it out.

I'm now a few chapters into Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. Quite a refreshing (and exhaustive) look at the nation's history.
