So I found the Mechagodzilla yesterday at TRU. Not a bad figure really, probably one of the best toys in this entire line, and mainly for the fact that we don't have a 6" Bandai '74 Mechagodzilla in the Japanese line. So this is actually a figure that doesn't seem incredibly redundant to me. The detail on this figure is really nice, although I think they overdid it with the "rubber" texturing. I don't recall the original 1974 Mechagodzilla costume being that pinched and rubbery looking. The colors, while very well done and appealing, would look more appropriate on the '75 version of Mechagodzilla.
Still, this is a really nice looking toy and whoever sculpted it really tried hard to make it look cool. While the rubbery surface detail is overdone, it's still shows terrific attention to detail that godawful figures like the BC Hedora lack. I also spotted an incredible little detail on one of the back fins that shows that the person who sculpted this thing obviously did his homework. There's a small notch that's been carved out of the bottom of one of the fins (fourth from the top, middle) that matches one on the actual suit. Impressive.
But I still don't like those damn arms! The right one I can live with since it's sort of pointing forward, but the left one is just weird. This is otherwise such an outstanding figure. But the pose just compromises it so much. Shame.
