Suit yourselves, y'all. I already have the entire GRINDHOUSE in MP4 format on my iPod, and I've watched the individual movies in addition to the whole thing enough times over the past few months to warrant purchasing DVD-quality versions that are bigger than 3 inches across. I thought both movies were fantastic on their own, but I do prefer the entire GRINDHOUSE together, which is why I hope sales of the individual releases are strong enough to warrant a double-dip of the complete package. In the meantime, the individual flicks, bonus features, and iPod-sized GRINDHOUSE can tide me over. (Y'all check your PMs by the way.)
But just to clarify, while Tarantino and Rodriguez did indeed know that they'd be putting their flicks together to make the double-feature, they weren't made so that they wouldn't work on their own. Tarantino said about having to put them together once they were both finished, "me and Robert had to cut our films to the bone, past the bone, to make it work for the whole double-feature experience. It's interesting to be in that situation and see if your movie can still survive, and it did." When Tarantino submitted Death Proof to Cannes, nobody forced him to reinstate the 20-30 minutes of footage he had originally excised. It's because this is Tarantino's true cut of the movie in itself, and the same goes for Rodriguez's full-length Planet Terror.
And as said before, it's not known what will happen with Planet Terror's picture yet, but Death Proof is definitely NOT cleaned up for this release. The picture is the same as it was in GRINDHOUSE, and I'd put money on Planet Terror looking the same as well.
