Hmmmmmmm, I could see this happening:

"Due to the technological costs in installing <insert program name>, which will block the PS3 from allowing the plackback of a game that was not inserted into it first, the PS3's current price tag has been raised by an additional $200."

Seriously though, what Sony said they would do is illegal. What happens if the system breaks? You'd have to rebuy all of your games over again as well. That is good for Sony and the companies, but consumers would not go for it. Ultimately, if Sony were to do that, they are coming right out and saying "We want to go out of business, but need an excuse."

Some game called Thesis was just cancelled for the PS3 due to high development costs.

Wait, what are we talking about here? I'm lost now. I'm talking about it being illegal to force consumers to only buy new copies of games and not be allowed to sell their games because of some stupid program code.

That would be called licensing, you can only license one version of the software being sold, that's what Sony would be doing if they made it so your PS3 game would work on only one PS3.

IF Sony decides to do this then rental places could pay for an unlimited licensing fee which would also jack up rental prices on PS3 games, you could be looking at $15+ just to rent one PS3 game.

Meh. What about the ones on can only play on Nintendo and Microsofts machines? Gears of War? Mario? Zelda? Metroid? Halo? GTA? Won't be able to play any of those on Sonys overpriced HDDVD player...
