Netflix has released key art, photos, a trailer and a featurette for their upcoming American remake of DEATH NOTE. Based on the famous Japanese manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the Netflix original feature film follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone`s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life. Initially developed by Warner Bros., DEATH NOTE is directed by Adam Wingard (BLAIR WITCH, YOU`RE NEXT) and stars Nat Wolff (PAPER TOWNS, THE FAULT OF OUR STARS) as Light Turner, Margaret Qualley (THE LEFTOVERS) as Mia Sutton, Lakeith Stanfield (GET OUT, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON) as L, Paul Nakauchi (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD`S END) as Watari, Shea Whigham (AMERICAN HUSTLE, KONG: SKULL ISLAND) as James Turner and Willem Dafoe (SPIDER-MAN, PLATOON) as the voice of Ryuk. DEATH NOTE will premiere exclusively on August 25th to Netflix members worldwide, except in Japan, where it will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures Japan (theatrical distributor of the Japanese DEATH NOTE feature films). Manga and anime company VIZ Media, LLC, is handling merchandising opportunities for the film.
