Sony/Crunchyroll does it again as CHAINSAW MAN – THE MOVIE: REZE ARC makes its domestic debut in the top spot in 3,003 theaters with $17.25 million for a PTA of $5,744. The manga adaptation produced by MAPPA received phenomenal audience and critical response – earning an A CinemaScore, a 99% audience and 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 5-star PostTrak rating. It has already been a hit on the international stage and now hits North America with a number one debut.
The R-rated anime film bumped last week's top movie, BLACK PHONE 2, to 2nd place, and outperformed this weekend's other wide new releases, including Paramount’s REGRETTING YOU (3rd place/$12.85 million) and 20th Century Studios’ SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE (4th place/$9.1 million). The numbers were announced by the theatrical measurement service, Comscore. As the trusted official standard for real-time worldwide box office reporting, Comscore provides the only theater-level reporting in the world.
CHAINSAW MAN – THE MOVIE: REZE ARC also topped the international box office, continuing its stellar run overseas and joining a select group of anime films passing the century mark with a global cume of $108M, including Japan. Sony/Crunchyroll expanded the movie in 34 international markets this weekend and delivered $32.0M worldwide, including $14.7M overseas from 46 total markets and 7,700+ screens, for a global studio cume of $60.4M ($43.1M international, $17.25M domestic).
The film is showing strong performances in every corner of the world. In Europe, the pic delivered a powerful $7.2M, led by Germany with $1.6M. France opened to $1.5M, followed by the UK with $1.4M. Latin America debuted to a strong $3.3M, led by a #2 finish in Mexico with $1.3M. South Korea raised its total to an incredible $19.1M (#5 anime film of all time) after taking in $1.8M (-12%) in its 5th weekend. Upcoming key market release: Poland (31-Oct).
CHAINSAW MAN THE MOVIE: REZE ARC did well in premium theatrical formats (US/Canada totals: PLF 24%, IMAX 19%, 3D 15%, 4D 5%), carving out $5.4M in IMAX box office this weekend, and driving the overall IMAX cume to $13.5M. It delivered a solid North American result with $3.3M from 361 IMAX screens. Expanding internationally after a successful start across the APAC region, a further $2.1M is generated from 353 IMAX screens to drive the international total past $10.2M. The film continues to roll out across IMAX next weekend as the release expands to additional markets including Sweden, Norway, South Africa and Turkey.
