TMS Entertainment and Wright Film have provided information and images for LUPIN THE IIIRD: ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS (LUPIN THE IIIRD 銭形と2人のルパン, LUPIN THE IIIRD Zenigata to 2-ri no Rupan), which comes to streaming services in Japan on Friday, June 20th. I

A hard-hitting action film starring Inspector Zenigata, ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS is the prequel to the upcoming feature film, LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: IMMORTAL BLOODLINE (LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE 不死身の血族, LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE Fujimi no Ketsuzoku), the first 2D animated film in the "Lupin the Third" series in over 30 years. IMMORTAL BLOODLINE will open in Japanese cinemas on Friday, June 27th.

Both ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS and IMMORTAL BLOODLINE are directed by Takeshi Koike, who has been highly praised both in Japan and abroad for the visual style of his films, including REDLINE (レッドライン, 2010), and THE ANIMATRIX: WORLD RECORD (アニマトリックスワールド・レコード, Animatorikkusu Wārudo Rekōdo, 2003), a segment of the THE MATRIX anthology animation film. His previous "Lupin the Third" credits include the original video animations LUPIN THE IIIRD: DAISUKE JIGEN'S GRAVE MARKER (LUPIN THE IIIRD 次元大介の墓標, Jigen Daisuke no Bohyō, 2014), LUPIN THE IIIRD: GOEMON'S BLOOD SPRAY (LUPIN THE IIIRD 血煙の石川五ェ門, Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon, 2017) and LUPIN THE IIIRD: FUJIKO'S LIE (LUPIN THE IIIRD 峰不二子の嘘, Mine Fujiko no Uso, 2019).

The voice cast includes series regulars Koichi Yamadera (Inspector Zenigata), Kanichi Kurita as Lupin III, Akio Otsuka (Daisuke Jigen), Daisuke Namikawa (Goemon Ishikawa), and Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko Mine).

■ Teaser Poster Released

In the teaser poster (see pic to the right) Inspector Zenigata, wearing a trench coat and a fedora that looks like it has been hit by a bullet, stares straight ahead with a sharp gaze, while Arsène Lupin III is walks away with a Walther P38 in his hand.

The tagline reads "It was you who was stolen..."

■ Story

A terrorist bombing rocks an airport in the frigid land of the Roviet Union. The suspect is none other than Lupin the IIIrd. Inspector Zenigata tracks down Lupin, who professes his innocence. Zenigata, a man of justice, embarks on a quest that will bring him face to face with the mysterious "fake Lupin."

A national conspiracy, the truth behind a terrorist bombing, and the intersection of the two Lupins... Zenigata's beliefs are put to the test. The curtain rises on the series' most rugged buddy action film, full of melancholy and adventure.

■ Sunday Theatre Drama Reveals ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS

The Sunday Theatre dramam series MR. MIKAMI'S CLASSROOM (御上先生, Mikami Sensei), which began airing on the Japanese network TBS in January, was written by Roba Shimori, a big fan of Lupin and especially his ally Goemon Ishikawa. The series features a supporting character, Kenta Tsugimoto, who is nicknamed "Jigen" after Lupin's best friend, Daisuke Jigen. MR. MIKAMI'S CLASSROOM director Yohei Miyazaki also liked Lupin, so
the poster for LUPIN THE IIIRD: ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS was displayed in Jigen's room in one of the episodes.

This was the first time that ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS was revealed to the pblic. Lupin fans were in an uproar on social media, posting "Is that a poster for a new release?" and "I've never seen that blue poster before."

■ Japanese TV Broadcasts and Streaming Debuts

To commemorate the release of the movie LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: IMMORTAL BLOODLINE, the Japanese staellite service WOWOW will broadcast ZENIGATA AND THE TWO LUPINS for the first time on television on Sunday, June 22nd as part of a night of Lupin III anime.
