GKIDS, the Academy Award-winning producer and distributor of acclaimed and artist-driven animation from around the world, announced today it has acquired theatrical distribution rights for North America to JUJUTSU KAISEN: HIDDEN INVENTORY / PREMATURE DEATH – THE MOVIE (呪術廻戦 懐玉・玉折, Jujutsu Kaisen: Kaigyoku・Gyokusetsu, 2025). GKIDS will release the film in theaters nationwide in original Japanese and English dubbed versions beginning July 16th.
The theatrical compilation feature returns to the widely beloved “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” story arc of the globally acclaimed JUJUTSU KAISEN series, which focused on the younger days of fan-favorite characters Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, who shared a deep bond that was tested by one fateful mission. Featuring newly remixed sound for an immersive theater experience, this high-quality adaptation, which captivated audiences during its original broadcast, reaches new heights—bringing the powerful story back to the big screen.
JUJUTSU KAISEN: HIDDEN INVENTORY / PREMATURE DEATH – THE MOVIE will be released domestically in Japan on May 30th. Last month, a new trailer was released, previewing the all-new acoustic version of Tatsuya Kitani’s “Where Our Blue Is,” which was previously used as the opening theme song for the television broadcast of the “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” arc. Tatsuya Kitani’s original opening theme captured the hearts of millions in its original run, with currently over 100 million views of the original opening theme song on YouTube, and over 200 million streams on Spotify alone.
The JUJUTSU KAISEN anime series, produced by Toho animation, animated by the legendary MAPPA studio, and based on the best-selling manga of the same name by Gege Akutami, published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, first aired in October 2020. It has since become a true global and pop culture phenomenon. The wildly popular series wrapped up its second season in December 2023, and was awarded “Anime of the Year” at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, among many other prizes. JUJUTSU KAISEN: HIDDEN INVENTORY / PREMATURE DEATH – THE MOVIE is the first new release from the JUJUTSU KAISEN property since the end of the series’ second season, and the first theatrical feature from the franchise since JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 which grossed over $188 million globally. This is the first time GKIDS has distributed a JUJUTSU KAISEN title.
