North Star Pictures JP have revealed the first details and advance artwork for their upcoming monster movie, KAIJU: ISLAND OF FIRE. The first film in a planned franchise, the story begins when a geological anomaly is discovered by a team of scientists on an ancient Japanese Island. After the members of a construction team, who were in the process of building a new military base there, go missing, a combined military and science task force is sent to investigate. Once on the island, the task force encounters a foreboding, fiery landscape now home to a strange and terrifying creature, capable of destroying them...and all who venture near!

KAIJU: ISLAND OF FIRE is written and directed by Andrew L. Phillips, an experienced stuntman with credits on CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and THE EXPENDABLES series.  The creative team includes Creature Designer Kakeru Haraguchi, Special Effects Consultant Hiroshi Katagiri (CAPTAIN MARVEL, ANTLERS, THE MANDALORIAN) and Visual Effects Supervisor Duncan Buckley (THE FABLE, ONZOSHI BOYS). The main cast features Wes Wing, Thelma Rún Heimisdóttir, Toshihiro Wakita, Emma Stuart-Box, Yutaka Nozawa, Michael Cristoph and Michael Wayne Herrington Jr.

Following in the footsteps of 3Y Film productions such as NEZURA 1964 (ネズラ1964, 2020) and HOSHI 35 (星35), KAIJU: ISLAND OF FIRE will also feature a number of beloved legacy actors from kaiju cinema. The first names to be announced are:

 

Kent Gilbert  --  known as the WWII US naval commander in GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH (ゴジラvsキングギドラ, Gojira tai Kingu Gidora,1991), Gilbert also appeared in PEKING MAN (ペキンげんじん フーアーユー?, Pekingenjin Fūāyū?, 1997) and lent his voice to MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE? (超時空要塞マクロス 愛・おぼえていますか, Eiga Chōjikūyōsai Makurosu-ai Oboete Imasu ka, 1984).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chuck Wilson  -- best known to kaiju fans as Wilson, the evil leader of the Futurians in GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tomoko Ai - played the tragic cyborg Katsura in the final Showa Godzilla movie, TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (メカゴジラの逆襲, Mekagojira no Gyakushū, 1975) and starred as MAC team member Haruko Matsuki in the television series ULTRAMAN LEO (ウルトラマンレオ, Urutoraman Reo, 1974-75). Ms. Ai makes her long overdue return to the genre with KAIJU: ISLAND OF FIRE.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Inge Murata -- has played German Chancellor Anjela in Merkel in both MONSTER X STRIKES BACK: ATTACK THE G-8 SUMMIT (ギララの逆襲／洞爺湖サミット危機一発,Girara no Gyakushū: Tōyako Samitto Kiki Ippatsu, 2008)  and THE GREAT BUDDHA ARRIVAL (大仏廻国, Daibutsu Kokaiku, 2019). Her credits also include ULTRAMAN COSMOS VS ULTRAMAN JUSTICE: THE FINAL BATTLE (ウルトラマンコスモスVSウルトラマンジャスティス THE FINAL BATTLE, Urutoraman Kosumosu VS Urutoraman Jasutisu Za Fainaru Batoru, 2003) and SHIN GODZILLA (シン・ゴジラ, Shin Gojira, 2016).
