    Comscore has announced the official international box office estimates for the weekend of May 9, 2021, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.     Notable International Openers:

    Warner Bros.’ THOSE WHO WISH ME DEAD debuted to an estimated $1.3M in 12 overseas territories amid increasing COVID restrictions introduced as late as this week.The film played on roughly 1,700 screens, ranking #1 in 6 opening territories.  

    Warner Bros.’ released BRAZIL to an estimated R$ 4.4m ($810k), including previews, on 1,100 screens and ranking #1. These results are roughly on par with the opening weekends of GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS and SKYSCRAPER. 

    ■ Notable International Performers:

    Warner Bros.’ GODZILLA VS. KONG generated an estimated $2.2m for the weekend in 45 markets in release. The overseas cume to date is $329.6m and the global tally is now $422.6m.  

    RUROUNI KENSHIN: THE FINAL took in another ¥213.6m ($2.0m) on 378 screens and continuing to rank #2 behind DETECTIVE CONAN: THE SCARLET BULLET.  The cume to date in the market is now ¥2.3b ($21.3m).

    Now in its fifth international weekend, Warner Bros.’ MORTAL KOMBAT took in an estimated $1.4m this weekend from 40 markets, bringing the international running cume to $34.7m and the worldwide total is currently $72.5m. 

    Sony’s THE UNHOLY took in $1.2 million this weekend in 17 territories for an international cume of $10 million.Mexico held #1 spot for the third consecutive weekend with $545K, which takes the market cume to $4.3 million.  

    Sony Pictures International Productions’ DEVYATAEV (V2. ESCAPE FROM HELL), a war drama co-directed by renowned Russian director Timur Bekmambetov, continues to hold well in Russia, down just 13% to deliver $940K in its sophomore session.The market cume is now $2 million.   

    Universal’s NOBODY now in its seventh weekend internationally earned $553k in 23 territories for an international cume to date of $19.353M.Combined with the N. Am. weekend of $760k, the global weekend took in $1.313M for a running global cume of $43.920M.  

    Sony Pictures International Productions’ WAITING FOR BRAIN,a romantic drama, grossed $455K in its second frame in South Korea for a local cume of $2.4 million.

    Sony Pictures International Productions’ MAN IN LOVE, a local language remake of the 2014 South Korean romantic drama, took in $390K this weekend, bringing its cume to an impressive $14 million in Taiwan after six weeks in release.  

    Sony’s PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY took in $340K this weekend for an international cume of $17.9 million from 386 screens in Australia ($15.3 million cume) and New Zealand ($2.5 million cume).The film begins its international expansion next week with major markets Russia, Mexico and the Middle East opening.

    CLIFF WALKERS tops IMAX box office in China.

    After overtaking MY LOVE on May 3 for top position at the China box office, China Film’s CLIFF WALKERS continues its successful box office run this weekend, adding $1.7m on the IMAX China network. 

    Earlier in the week, CLIFF WALKERS set the IMAX Labor Day holiday box office record for a local title, 2nd only to 2019’s AVENGERS: ENDGAME as the highest IMAX box office title ever during the early May holiday frame.The Zhang Yimou-directed thriller grows its IMAX cume to $8m after only 10 days of release, 7% of the nationwide total.
