GODZILLA MINUS ZERO Wins Over Critics At Its World Premiere At The New York Film Festival

The sequel to the Oscar-winning GODZILLA MINUS ONE, written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, debuts with a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and arrives in Mexican theaters on November 5.

GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, the highly anticipated follow-up to GODZILLA MINUS ONE, held its world premiere on September 26 as a Special Gala at the 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF), where it was enthusiastically received by the international press.

Following its screening, the film earned a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics highlighted the scale of the spectacle, the visual effects, and the human drama driving the story. IndieWire described it as a sequel superior to its predecessor in almost every way, while The Hollywood Reporter singled out its action sequences as some of the most intense of the year.

Set in 1949 — two years after the events of GODZILLA MINUS ONE— the film picks up the story of the Shikishima family, who must face a new calamity when Godzilla returns, bigger and more aggressive than ever, amidst the looming threat of King Ghidorah.

With GODZILLA MINUS ONE, Takashi Yamazaki made history by delivering the first *Godzilla* film to win an Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects). Now, Variety is already positioning GODZILLA MINUS ZERO as a contender in the same category. Additionally, it is the first Japanese feature film shot specifically for IMAX screens.

GODZILLA MINUS ZERO Conquista A La Crítica En Su Premiere Mundial En El Festival De Cine De Nueva York

Godzilla was born on the big screen in 1954, conceived from the start to be experienced in a theater. True to those origins, the production team behind GODZILLA MINUS ZERO set a single goal: "to ensure the audience leaves the theater truly satisfied."

Convinced that "Japanese cinema needs to take a step forward," Yamazaki and his team decided to shoot in IMAX to deliver the franchise's most ambitious visual experience. Every creative decision—regarding visuals, performances, sound, and drama—was made with the big screen in mind, driven by the technical craftsmanship and passion required to create a Godzilla film that demands to be experienced firsthand. Because only in the cinema does Godzilla truly become Godzilla.
