Akita Shoten Co., Ltd. (Head office: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Tokuji Yamaguchi) has provided new details on their manga Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey (ゴジラ ギャラクシーオデッセイ, Gojira Gyarakushī Odessei), which begins serialization in the magazine Young Champion (ヤングチャンピオン,Yangu Chanpion) starting with issue 12, on sale today in Japan.

 

Story

Godzilla once ravaged Shinjuku, devastating the city center. Years later, Godzilla has disappeared and mankind has gained enough scientific knowledge to advance into space. Then, one day, a new threat attacks the Earth: a mysterious space monster. Is there anything humanity can do against this unknown threat...?

Now begins a battle between Godzilla, mankind, and a terrifying space monster never seen before!!

 

Simultaneous Serialization on Young Champion Web!

Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey is not only serialized in Young Champion, but also on the website Young Champion Web! Creative Team

Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey is written and drawn by Ju Ishiguchi, a manga artist and mecha designer. His notable works include Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Re: (機動戦士ガンダムSEED Re:, Kidō Senshi Gundam Seed Re:, 2012), HERO PLATOON: The Taciturn Hero Will Not Be Persuaded! (勇者小隊 寡黙勇者は流されない, Yūsha Shōtai: Kamoku Yūsha wa Nagasarenai, 2012-22), and I’m the Heroic Knight of an Intergalactic Empire! (あたしは星間国家の英雄騎士!, Atashi wa Seikan Kokka no Eiyuu Kishi). Ishiguchi also designed the mecha for the Godzilla manga.

The Godzilla featured in Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey was designed by Shinji Nishikawa, a character designer who has worked on monster and hero designs and storyboards for numerous Godzilla movies and TV special effects, including GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE (ゴジラVSビオランテ, Gojira vs Biorante, 1989). He also participated in the monster design for the anime series SSSS.GRIDMAN (SSSS.グリッドマン, SSSS.Guriddoman, 2018), and is active as a manga artist on titles including Giant Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure (大怪獣バトル ウルトラアドベンチャ, Daikaijū Batoru Urutora Adobenchā, 2008). In 2024, he wrote and illustrated Godzilla: The Encyclopedia, a comprehensive guide to the monsters deisgns from the Godzilla movies and the animated series GODZILLA SINGULAR POINT (ゴジラ S.P ＜シンギュラポイント＞, Gojira Shingyura Pointo, 2021). Godzilla: The Encyclopedia is available in English from Titan Books.

The space monsters for the manga are designed by Hiroshi Maruyama, a character designer, illustrator, and special effects artist, known for creating many popular heroes and monsters in the Heisei Ultraman series such as ULTRAMAN TIGA (ウルトラマンティガ, Urutoraman Tiga, 1996-97). His credits include GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA (ゴジラ×メカゴジラ, Gojira x Mekagojira, 2002), KAMEN RIDER WIZARD (仮面ライダーウィザード, Kamen Raidā Wizādo, 2012-13) and SSSS.GRIDMAN.

Comment: “Following GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA and GODZIBAN (怪獣人形劇 ゴジばん, Kaijū Ningyōgeki Gojiban), this will be my third time participating in Godzilla! I can’t wait to see this new monster go on a rampage!”

Young Champion Will Feature Two Consecutive Issues In Color With A Special Bonus!!

 In the first issue of the series, Young Champion No. 12, which goes on sale on Tuesday, May 27th, Godzilla will appear in 45 color pages at the beginning of the issue, and a special double-sided clear file will also be included as a bonus.

And in Young Champion No. 13, which goes on sale on Tuesday, June 10th and will feature the second chapter, Godzilla will appear in color inside the issue. The bonus is also luxurious, with a limited-edition card for the fighting card game GODZILLA CARD GAME (ゴジラ カードゲーム, Gojira Kādo Gēmu), which will be released by Toho on Saturday, July 5th. Of course, the illustration is a monster card from Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey by Ju Ishiguchi! Be the first to use Godzilla from the manga in the game and stand out from the crowd!
