The Media Blasters R1 release? Just want to be sure before laying down "the cash".

Yes, that's the best region 1 DVD version to date.

A quick question if anyone knows: Does the U.S. dub of Gappa differ from the Japanese at all?

The Tokyo Shock DVD is dual languaged and is the best version of Gappa to buy. :D

The subtitles I've heard are in fact "dubtitles", but it's not an issue or really a bad thing.

The english dub is the original AIP dub, and both versions of the movie are encoded sepeartly on dual layers. The Japanese version is far superior because of the super-awesome song sung over the credits.

Yeah I read that the subtitles were actually dubtitles but it's not really an issue that's bad enough to to stop me from picking this up.

And that's great to hear that the Japanese version features the Great Giant Beast Gappa theme at the end. I was hoping that would be the case (so I'd imagine chances are then that it includes Keep Trying, Baby Gappa! too :D ). :)

Su-poib, thanks Nexus and GFan for the confirmation on that. I'll be off to place my order right away. :)

Isn't that Tokyo Shock, not Japan Shock (*and has no idea what Rubber Suit Pictures is to ADV* :P )?

But if they are the same, why does the R1 version lack the behind the scenes featurette present on the Dutch R2?

I wonder if the "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" offered on the same site is the AIP version?

Essentially, the Tokyo Shock DVD is the best available. But I think Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters really needs to reissue it, as it really left a lot to be desired (it was mastered directly from a VHS or LD, and there were no other extras). Considering their excellent new DVD releases (and they've really improved! I mean, look at their Invader ZIM DVD, and their newer releases of Japanese movies), I hope they do a proper print (the whole Japanese version, in anamorphic widescreen, with removable English subs), plus extras (like the original trailer). It's not impossible!
