See Questions 12 and 13 of the MGXFAQ.
12.) Q: I’ve seen your drawings and they are very good, but what is that growing out of Kiryuu’s head? Is that hair?
A: I have been getting this question a lot since I started showing my drawings of Kiryuu on the web. The hair/pred-dreds/(girly-locks) are actually protein nerve sensors. Kinda wiggle a bout like Medusa snakes. Really cool. But if you want the technical term for what they are, here is my answer. And be prepared to get a lot of technical jargon that goes along with it. They are called Bio-Mechanical Sensors and Control Relay Fiber-Optics. You got it? Good. We all clear now on what they are? No? How about this? In lame man’s terms, Kiryuu, being partially machine, has a lot of sensors attached to various systems hardware and well, mechanical bits and peices. Like say Internal and External Weapons Systems and well, the boosters and grav generators he has on him. But like you and me, those sensors act like the nervus system of his body and so, they are sensitive to temperature changes, touch, light, and molecules in the air. What you see on his head are the External Synaptic Cords and they connect to the External Rocket Array. The rocket pack doesn’t connect directly to Kiryuu’s system on his back, so he has to have those dreds to control it directly from his CPU. Now you got it? Great! Glad I could clear that up. It happens to be the most popular question around.
13.) Q: But that is not what they are called in the story. What are they called in the story? And why do you call them that now?
A: I have an editor who is picky on what technical wording I use. They are called in the story Bio-synaptic Cord Bundles. The BSCB. But synapses are the spaces between nerve cells and not the nerve cell itself. So, because of a technical wording error, I had to change their name. In the latest story, they are called the ‘Nerve Sensor Cords’. And no they are not exposed nerves, they are more like the fiber-optic wires on cable lines, all the syntech nerves are contained within a protective sheath that are just slightly more sensitive than human fingers. Though, he protects them with his helm most of the time—especially when he is out battling. Of course the real reason for him having them is—I think he looks cool with dreadlocks.
Any futher questions...please refer to the MGXFAQ...
Yes, it finally happened. I got so tired of all those questions that I wrote a FAQ to answer them all.
It's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!
