After seeing Van Helsing I thought to myself, "That's a great example of a good idea gone awry." Okay, so I didn't use those exact words. But suffice to say, it had a great concept, wonderful design, and terrible, terrible editing. The action sequences were so overblown tey actually detracted from my enjoyment of the film--in an action movie! So, I decided that by the time it became available on DVD, I'd have learned enough about home editing software and ripping DVDs, etc. that I could make my own "cut" of the film. The version that I, as an audience member, wanted to see. Not to deter from the hard work of all the people that made the movie, but to, in my eyes at least, refine it. And eventually, I started thinking about other movies I'd like to work on, like Star Trek: The Motion Picture or HULK.
Here's where Godzilla comes in. gfanikf's recent project with Godzilla vs. Hedorah gave me an idea. Certainly, as much as I love the series, I can find some good examples of rushed and ultimately flawed works that could use fine-tuning. And which movie of this sort do I rather infamously take a liking to? Enter: Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla: CyHunter's Cut.
The additions, deletions, and alterations I plan to make are in an overall sense, intended to do three things: 1) Keep the pace of the film steady; 2) Delete cheeseball moments, and 3) Add a few additional elements that aren't in the theatrical cut..
The GvsSG:CC webpage (follow the link in my signature) includes a complete list of my planned changes, some visual examples of potential alterations, and a log of progress.
