I'd say Mothra vs Godzilla has the better special effects. From the excellent Godzilla suit to the amazing adult Mothra prop to the near perfect optical and matte effects, Mothra vs Godzilla represented everyone in Tsuburaya's crew at the top of their game.

King Kong vs Godzilla unfortunately has that shoddy Kong suit and some really bad matte and optical effects. I like the Kin-Goji suit but it's no contest to the Mosu-Goji suit, at least not in my eyes.

Definitely Mothra Against Godzilla IMO. KKvsG didn't even use fast-motion photography to slow down the monster's movements, the Kong suit looked like a Halloween costume, and many times the miniatures appeared to belong to a child's play set. And King-Goji, while he looks cool in stills, looks l the most rubbery and suitiest it could possibly look in motion onscreen. The Mosu-Goji, in comparison, moves slowly, thunderingly, and has fluid movements.
