1. Has Criterion ever revisited a title or a set and re-issued it with more material?

2. Has Criterion ever broken out a title from a set they already released and redone it with more extras or features?

On the packaging: Maybe I'm boring, and as much as I dig some of the pieces, the insufferable nerd within me wishes the set had a cleaner, uniform look to it with screen/suit accurate illustrations. I mean, it is kinda lame a set devoted to the Showa era has a clearly Heisei style Godzilla on the cover (double rows of teeth et al).

I know this goes back to complaints about the infamous G54 popup, but it's like if Criterion ever released Alien (1979) and used this boring stock on the cover.

Art Adams' piece is my absolute favorite of the bunch and I wish he and Bob Eggleton (sadly absent) had shared duties on the set. Those are the big two for me when it comes to English language Godzilla artists - similar to Alan Lee and John Howe when it coms to LOTR/Tolkien art.

Any chance they will release a non-Deluxe edition, that doesn't have a book holding the discs?

Maybe it's just the hater in me but the Heisei & Millennium films don't seem nearly as artistically worthwhile for Criterion to bother with.

With the Honda/Banno interview and the Unused Effects doc we're getting quite a bit of vintage interview time with Honda and other primary sources.

Hell yes to the Toho Unused Special Effects 1986 documentary! We'll get subtitled interviews with Ishiro Honda, Tomoyuki Tanaka and Teruyoshi Nakano plus special effects outtakes like the Godzilla vs. Manda tussle and the failed first take at wrecking Nagoya Castle in Mothra vs. Godzilla.

Pre-orders for Criterion's Godzilla box set have currently made it the 9th-bestselling movie or TV title on . Meanwhile, pre-orders for Legendary's Godzilla: King of the Monsters BRD/DVD/digital combo pack have it at 17th place on Amazon's bestsellers list.

*pokes head back in* Everyone calmed down now?

Criterion UK have just officially confirmed the previously rumoured November release for this set in the UK (no specific date yet, but I've seen the 25th rumoured). It's currently up for pre-order on Amazon UK at £150, which is surprisingly reasonable. I've asked them for confirmation on whether it will include all the same features as the US release, so I'll report back if they reply. Given the tangled web of Godzilla licencing, I'll be impressed if they've managed to replicate everything across releases in two countries.

I'm not cancelling my pre-order for the US version yet though, since Criterion UK are notorious for cancelling releases.

Congrats UK fans, I know it's been relatively difficult to be a Godzilla fan there in the age of digital video.

I just noticed that the place where I asked for more details about the UK release (https://www.facebook.com/ukcriterion/) isn't actually an official channel. As far as I can see, there is no official site or news feed for Criterion in the UK. If anyone knows of one, please point it out. In the meantime, I've done a little detective work.

Currently, the most detail about the UK release can be found on the Zoom product page:

https://www.zoom.co.uk/product/godzilla ... on_blu_ray

This is a word-for-word duplicate of the product information on . The question is whether Criterion sent that product description to Zoom, or whether they just sneakily copy-pasted it from Criterion's site for the US version. Zoom's photo is of the US version, since it doesn't have even a preliminary mockup of a BBFC classification. That's not unusual, but also doesn't offer any evidence for Zoom not just grabbing the photo from Criterion's page. The Amazon UK product page similarly just has photos of the US version for now.

I had a look at the BBFC website, but none of the movies have been classified yet. That would be the place to check for the runtime of King Kong vs Godzilla, for example.

So the conclusion is currently...inconclusive.

EDIT: I've just emailed Criterion directly to ask about the details of the UK release. I'll report back if they reply.
