Man, so no U.S. versions of some of the best and most important films from the 60’s? That’s a hard pill to swallow.

It’s obviously an absolute must-have set for any fan, and will certainly offer THE definitive versions of many of these films on home video. But the fact that it’s not the totally comprehensive showa set that we all would’ve wanted really has a tempering effect on my excitement level.

I’m sure the disappointment will subside as I come to terms with the fact that it’s another “Star Wars situation” and I’ll just have to supplement this set with other stuff (most of which I already own).

I’m really sad about the US cuts of Godzilla vs The Thing and Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster though

Well, that is pretty cool. I'll wait for full details to come out before commenting on any lack of dubs though. But I have a feeling very soon, the rage is going to shift from dubs to the packaging....It's almost like someone at Criterion saw a *few* fan complaints about the original film release packaging, and said *wait till they get a load of this* Mwuahahahahaaaaaa!!!!! (just kidding)

I'm confused...the info presented on Criterion's site leads me to believe that the U.S. cut of King Kong vs. Godzilla is what is in this set, contrary to the info above. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong???...Otherwise, looks interesting(I REALLY like the mention of programs showing behind the scenes/deleted footage in the extra features), but I won't be getting rid of my Classic Media discs anytime soon.

True, a lot of the specifics are pretty confusing. I'll wait for a more detailed breakdown of what exactly this set has and does not have.

Is that serioulsy the packaging? Please tell me there is more to it than just being some thin ass book? It looks like an overpriced children's book. I definitely wasn't expecting that. In fact, I was expecting something that more akin to actually sitting spined on my shelf. Wow. I'm a little disappointed.

WIth that said,OH MY GODZILLA!!!!

They did it, they actually did it. They managed to do the unthinkable by releasing an entra era of Godzilla films in one complete package. And it's still only $225? That is less than I expected. Way less. Wow, I'll be preordering this I guess from Amazon since no one else will probably have it.

The question now remains if they are eventually going to sell these movies separately. Seeing what they have available, the only one I am desiring is "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla", since A) I don't have that one on blu-ray and B) I am use to hearing that international dub.

With regards to the international dubs, I think I would rather hear Quint continuously scratching that chalk board!

Yeah, this doesn't sound like the be-all, end-all package some of us were hoping for (honestly it seems really weird that not all the films have dubs provided), but I'm sure these will be the best-quality presentations of the films we've seen so far, and the bonus features sound terrific. The Japanese cut of King Kong vs. Godzilla alone has me super stoked.

...And can we PLEASE lay off any complaints about "inaccurate artwork"? I get it, it kinda bugs me too - and I'm not necessarily implying we'll see a lot of those on this specific board - but it's a really minor thing in comparison, and this set absolutely deserves the fandom's full support (as long as some unforeseen quality gaff doesn't happen, which I doubt).

My only concern is if KKvsGodzilla is a bonus feature, does this mean it is going to be the crappy old transfer?

I wonder if this will make the Media Blasters DAM BD with the extra English dub on it be worth something on ebay.

Wow. You know, the lack of most of the English language versions is massively disappointing... but still, this is a massive accomplishment on the part of Criterion.

Listing the Japanese version of King Kong vs. Godzilla as an extra with the American version as the main feature must be a result of the deal with Universal. The fact that so many of the International dubs are missing must be the result of the pulling teeth-like nature of getting stuff from Toho. I mean, why else would the Godzilla vs. Gigan dub be missing? Luckily, we already had that preserved on a great previous Blu-ray release. The most important dub, the Glen Glen produced one for Astro Monster, I'm assuming is the one included since whatever other International dub was done has fallen off the face of the Earth and thats the one Criterion has been providing for streaming already. Not as many new extras as I was hoping, but the ones listed sound really intriguing, especially the unused effects stuff. The wording on some of those listings is a bit vague, are they referring to a lot of smaller programs or a few linger from ones? Whatever the case, there's apparently enough new extras to comprise an entire extras disc!

I think the package looks phenomenal. Love the individual artists. Sophie Campbell and Monarobot have done so much great fanart over the years it's great to see their work on an official release! Like the Zatoichi set, this looks like something that, when you have it in your hands, you'll just feel like you're holding something special.

I know I'm picky, but they have really done the impossible with this set within the limitations of dealing with all these parties.

I'll definitely be keeping my older Classic Media/Sony/Kraken DVDs and Blu-Rays for their various dubs and special features, but these will almost certainly become my 'go to' versions.

Man, while I’m quite disappointed by the lacking GvsTT and GTTHM and G’s Revenge U.S. versions, I’m not surprised about their absence.

But leaving out the international dubs for Ebirah, Hedorah, and Gigan when we already got those on BD before? I’m just kinda dumbfounded.

The more I read and realize exactly what’s not in this set the more frustrated I’m becoming at just *how much* I’m going to have to continue supplementing it with other sources. :|

It’s an absolute must-have for my collection. But it’s also so *glaringly* NOT comprehensive that it’s simultaneously quite disappointing.

I have very mixed feeling about it right now.
