I thought the Jaegers looked better on the big screen than they did on a high resolution monitor.

When i was at the comic shop the other day I asked my FLCS owner what he thought of the trailer, he said he felt like it showed the entire movie. He then proceeded to spell out a very plausible synopsis for an entire film based on the trailer (including a wild theory or two I have not heard elsewhere since.) All i could point to was that 90% of the trailers for the first film focused on elements that all played out before the title card.

^ That just sounds like a more traditional trilogy with some multimedia spin-offs, not a cinematic universe. Gotta get those buzzwords into the article though. :?

I think this looks like good fun. I was especially excited to see there will be daytime action scenes. The fact that we're getting a PR sequel at all was a shock, so I'm going in to this just to be entertained.

That old talk of a cross-over with the Monsterverse is rearing its head again.

^Sorta. It’s more like, people won’t stop asking, and everyone always says “Uh...sure, I guess, or whatever. Could be fun.”
And then fandom runs wild.

Sure, why not - pretty sure if it happens Mechagodzilla results from the crossover in some way.

I guess what makes a crossover an intriguing possibility is that they could do it without a continuity reboot. PR and the Monsterverse clearly don't take place in the same timeline, but inter-dimensional gateways are a core part of the PR mythos. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to have a movie where people in the PR universe build a prototype dimensional gateway, but it accidentally opens to an alternate Earth.

Yeah cross-dimensional travel is easily the most likely way for any crossover to ever potentially happen. Since it looks like the aliens are using "appropriated" Jaeger tech in Uprising they could always have the humans getting hold of their "breach" technology somehow, or just trying to create their own portal and accidentally bringing Kong and Godzilla over to their world.

DeKnight even name dropping Mechagodzilla as the Godzilla series' established mecha element.

If the MonsterVerse movies do well and Pacific Rim Uprising does well I'm thinking the crossover is fairly likely.

How would they account for MechaGodzilla being able to fly though?

^ But isn't Legendary's Kong matchup already a crossover (albeit with precedent)?

Yeh, but Toho tried to do another GvK in the 90s and the original remains the financial high mark of the franchise

If Del Toro remains on board in a producer capacity, I could totally see him grooving on a Gamera appearance, even fleetingly. Whether Legendary would want to pony up the $$$ to acquire the rights is another issue altogether, obviously. Capitol spent would have to make enough profit to warrant initial investment, otherwise The Suits would almost certainly thumb it down.

Though I seriously, seriously doubt it, if somehow Gamera ends up in "Pacific Rim" or one of the Godzilla features, or Legendary giving him his own feature, then that probably could account for why we never got a 50th anniversary Gamera movie. Legendary perhaps told Kadokawa to hold off for a certain time until the Monsterverse was finished with him.

Whatever Cale Boyter's "surprise" will be, we will eventually find out starting in 2018.

Kadokawa apparently don't make films with budgets you'd need to make something like a kaiju movie.

With Toho partnering with Polygon to make the Godzilla anime trilogy maybe our best bet for Kadokawa to actually make a Gamera film is to do it as a coproduction with another company?
